County Jail

Seven people were housed at the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 1:43 p.m. Tuesday, Charles Edward Henry, 49, Roachdale, was arrested on charges of child molestation as well as probation violation.

* At 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, James Allen Lewis, 36, Veedersburg, was charged with non-support of a dependent and contempt of court.

* At 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nicki Marie Davis, 28, Greencastle, was arrested for violation of home detention.

* At 7:07 p.m. Wednesday, Erick Knight, 34, Cloverdale, was charged with theft.

* At 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Trey Michael Vickrey, 23, Greencastle, was booked on a charge of methamphetamine sale.

* At 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, Christopher Ty Kwiek, 29, Kokomo, was arrested for non-support of a dependent.

Sheriff's Department

Four incidents were recently investigated by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

* At 12:41 a.m. Sunday, Minhee Kim, 26, Terre Haute, advised Lt. Dwight Simmons that as she was westbound on Interstate 70 in a 2008 Honda Civic, when she lost control on the snow-covered road.

Kim slid off the road and struck the center barrier, which rendered her vehicle immobile until it was removed from the median by tow truck.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 1:51 a.m. Monday, Brandon L. Carnes, 21, Indianapolis, was eastbound on I-70 in a 2003 Ford Taurus when he fell asleep at the wheel.

Carnes then veered off the roadway, striking a cable barrier before coming to rest.

Jessica L. Smith, 20, Avon, was a passenger in the vehicle and advised Lt. Simmons that she had minor arm pain.

Smith was transported from the scene with the assistance of an Operation Life ambulance.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 7:08 a.m. Tuesday, Joshua A. Duerlinger, 20, Terre Haute, told Deputy Adam Hull that he was backing out of a parking space in a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer when his vehicle slid on ice while attempting to stop, sliding into another vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

* At 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jill E. Cook, 35, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 125 South in a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer when she lost control of the vehicle.

Cook advised Deputy Hull that as she came over the top of a hill, the vehicle lost traction and began to slide.

Cook attempted to correct the vehicle but was unable to do so before leaving the roadway, hitting the ditch and some mailboxes before rolling onto the vehicles roof and coming to stop.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jason Waller, 19, Greencastle, was arrested by Sgt. Chris Jones on a Hendricks County warrant for theft.

Taken into custody at Castlebury Apartments, Waller was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

One property-damage accident was investigated recently by city officers.

* At 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Percy Julian Drive near Avenue E on the city's East Side.

Officer Darrel Bunten noted that Edna Watson, 71, Greencastle, was northbound on Percy Julian in a 2012 Chevrolet Impala when a 2006 Mercury Milan, driven by Breanna Ferrand, 18, Greencastle, pulled out of the east entrance of the Greencastle High School parking lot.

Ferrand told Officer Bunten she did not see the Watson vehicle as she attempted to merge onto Percy Julian.

Total damage was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

Two recent citations were issued by city officers.

* At 2:12 p.m. Tuesday, Mark Broadstreet, 60, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Ed Wilson for operating without financial responsibility.

The citation was issued following a fender-bender accident on the McDonald's parking lot in which the drivers only exchanged information due to minor damage.

* At 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Ian Pingleton, 36, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Wilson on Indianapolis Road near Kentwood Drive for driving with a suspended license.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to a number of dispatches recently.

* At 3:06 p.m. Monday, GFD was called to a vehicle fire at 1750 Indianapolis Rd. but upon arrival, it was advised that the Greencastle Police Department had extinguished the fire.

* At 2:02 p.m. Tuesday, GFD responded to a possible chemical hazard at 401 Longcastle Dr. after a resident reported smelling gas in the garage. After performing an air monitor and inspection, no gas was found.

* At 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 800 S. College Ave. triggered by smoke coming from soldering related to a water heater repair.

* At 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, GFD received a call of a gas odor at 1032 Canterbury Dr. Upon arrival, GFD found a stove burner had been left on. After ventilating the residence and performing an air monitor, GFD was able to return to the station.
