CLOVERDALE -- Area authorities remain on the lookout for a 25-year-old Poland man who twice eluded police last week.

The Owen County Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's assistance in locating that fleeing suspect, Robert "Bobby" Standifer, who is also known to go by the alias Robert or Bobby Forey.

Anyone who has any information concerning Standifer's whereabouts is urged to contact the Owen County Sheriff's Department's tip line at 812-829-4874 (Ext. 6050). Callers may remain anonymous.

Authorities' interest in Standifer stems from an incident last Tuesday night in which a Cloverdale Police Department officer tried to make a traffic stop on a blue Ford, reportedly being driven by Standifer, along State Road 42 west of Cloverdale.

Instead, he refused to stop and turned south onto the Cunot-Cataract Road. The car left the roadway and Standifer kept driving through a field before ultimately crashing into a tree.

The suspect then fled on foot through a wooded area with officers able to pursue his footprints in the snow for a brief time.

However, Standifer was reportedly picked up a short time later by Briona Cook, 22, of Owen County, driving a vehicle which authorities believe had been following behind the initial pursuit.

Standifer reportedly took the wheel of the Cook car as the pair fled a second time from an Owen County deputy.

The second pursuit proved even more shortlived than the first, ending with Standifer crashing the Cook vehicle into a utility pole.

Standifer again fled the accident scene on foot, managing to elude authorities for a second time the same night.

Meanwhile, Cook was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries before being taken into custody by Owen County Deputy Michael Browning.

Currently Standifer is reportedly wanted on warrants in Putnam, Owen, Morgan and Monroe counties.

Arrested in January in Owen County, he was held on charges of felony burglary, receiving stolen property and driving with a suspended license and is scheduled for an April 29 jury trial in Owen Circuit Court.
