Charles Edward Jones, 93, Knightsville, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at his home.

Charles was born in Bruceville, Ind., on Oct. 19, 1921 to Leo and Ileen (Patterson) Jones.

He married Karen (Bauer) Jones on June 14, 1970, and they moved to Greencastle in 1971, relocating to Knightsville in 1991.

Charles is survived by his children, Kent Jones (Diane), Gulf Shores, Ala., Marta Sweitzer (Michael), Noblesville, Stewart Jones, Knightsville, and Cari Cox (Jeffrey) Greencastle; grandchildren Erik Jones (Christina), Rochester, Minn., Jennifer Costello (Jim), Victoria, Minn., Michael Jones (Tammy) Noblesville, Rebecca Ebling (Adrian) Beulah, Wyo., Stacey Sweitzer, Carmel, Michael Sweitzer, Noblesville, Justine Jones, Lafayette, Kaelene Jones, Brazil, Ashlyn Cox, Greencastle, Tyler Jones, Greencastle, and Anna Cox, Greencastle; siblings Lucille Roach, Jim Jones (Regina), and John Jones, all of Citrus Springs, Fla.; 26 great-grandchildren and 31 nieces and nephews.

Charles was one of 10 siblings and was preceded in death by both of his parents; siblings Leo (Dude) Jones, Mary McFall, Matthew (Tub) Jones, George (Buck) Jones, Jane Demasters and Edna Atkinson; and Signa Spinks (Olsen), mother of Kent Jones and Marta Sweitzer.

In 1942 he joined the Unites States Navy and began his service during World War II, setting up radio towers in the South Pacific. For the duration of his service, he joined the Submarines, Pacific and Atlantic Theaters, serving on the USS Cuttlefish Training Vessel until 1945.

He was re-enlisted in 1952 for the Korean War, serving until 1954 aboard the USS Trumpetfish.

In 1957 he and his family moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., where he worked for six years for Minneapolis Honeywell. He was a plant manager at American Fabricated Products in Indianapolis for 17 years and was the owner/operator of the Town Tavern in Greencastle from 1972-79.

From 1979-84 he worked at Putnamville Correctional Facility and continued working thereafter for an additional 10 years for Walmart of Greencastle and Brazil.

In September 2013 he was accompanied by his oldest daughter, Marta Sweitzer, on the Indy Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He was welcomed home by his family.

Prior to his death, the family arranged to fulfill a request for Chuck which was to "fill" the Knightsville United Methodist Church in honor of his pastor, Scott Asalage. At Chuck's request, on Sunday, March 22 family and friends are invited to attend the 9:30 a.m. service.
