April 8 forum to focus on poverty in west-central Indiana
More than one in five Indiana children live in poverty according to the 2015 Kids Count in Indiana Data Book.
In response to a large number of Hoosier children living in poverty, the Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) is hosting an April 8 forum in Greencastle that will offer a glimpse at what life is like on an extremely limited income.
A family of four would have to earn $24,250 or less annually for a child to be considered living in poverty, according to the Kids Count in Indiana Data Book.
The forum will feature Jerry Laue, an administrator for St. Vincent Clay Hospital, who will provide a snapshot of the changing dynamics of poverty in west-central Indiana.
The forum will run from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, April 8 in the Community Room at Area 30 Career Center, 1 N. Calbert Way, Greencastle.
As part of IYI's Youth Worker Café program, the forums are free and lunch will be served, but reservations are required by April 6.
RSVP at www.iyi.org/YWC. Reservations may also be made by contacting IYI Statewide Outreach Manager Debbie Jones via email at djones@iyi.org.
Youth Worker Cafés are designed to bring together local youth workers to build relationships and inspire collaborations that will benefit children.
The forum is made possible by the collaborative efforts of the Putnam County Youth Development Commission, United Way of Putnam County, Mental Health America of Putnam County, Putnam County Family Support Services, Children's Bureau Inc. and IYI.
