County Jail

Thirteen people have been lodged at the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 2:35 p.m. Thursday, Joshua Lee Doane, 32, Poland, was charged with battery and bodily injury.

* At 3:13 a.m. Friday, Misty Dawn Moore, 32, Russellville, was arrested for intimidation and disorderly conduct.

* At 7:35 p.m. Logan James Pizzo, 24, Greencastle, was lodged in the jail for driving with a suspended license and failure to appear.

*At 1:50 a.m. Saturday, William Stanley Vensko, 45, Fillmore, was arrested on charges of strangulation, domestic battery, disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement.

* At 3:53 a.m. Alysha Margaret Bettis, 25, Poland, was charged with domestic battery, battery with a deadly weapon, intimidation, criminal mischief and possession of paraphernalia.

* At 5:43 a.m. Benjamin Robert Jones, 23, Russellville, was arrested for battery and public intoxication.

* At 11:55 p.m., Donald Leroy Dixie, 34, Greencastle, was arrested for house arrest escape.

* At 5:30 a.m. Monday, Zachary Scott Hesler, 28, Greencastle, was taken into custody for battery, criminal confinement of an adult, strangulation and intimidation.

* At 4:23 p.m. Monday, Thomas Aaron Baker, 43, Poland, was lodged in the jail with charges of robbing a bank with a firearm.

* At 9:50 p.m, Mark Kevin Coghill, 18, Greencastle, was arrested for theft.

* At 1:09 a.m. Tuesday, Nathan Timothy Bickle, 28, Greencastle, was charged with operating a vehicle while never receiving a license.

* At 12:04 a.m., Kristen Ruth Huepenbecker, 22, Greencastle, was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Sheriff's Department

Six incidents have been investigated by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department recently.

* At 3:12 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, Jamie T. Baker, 23, Quincy, was southbound on U.S. 231 when he lost control of his 1994 Ford sedan and spun off the road.

Baker advised investigating officer Sgt. Gregg Slover that a semi had veered into his lane, causing him to swerve and thus lose control of the vehicle, striking a tree, ditch and culvert before coming to a rest wedged between a tree and a fence post.

Passenger Chelcie N. Fusco, 19, Quincy, had to be extricated by the Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 4:57 a.m Thursday, Deputy Mike Downing was dispatched to 446 Stardust Rd. in Cloverdale on a report of a hit and run.

Upon arrival, the resident advised Downing that a silver minivan left the roadway, drove through the resident's yard and struck the resident's parked 2004 Honda Accord.

The minivan was still running when Downing arrived and after further investigation was found to be a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country that was registered to an address around the corner from the scene of the accident.

Dep. Virgil Lanning arrived to assist Downing, contacting the owners of the Chrysler who reported they did not know the vehicle was missing. They reported the minivan stolen at that time and a tow truck was called to remove the vechicle.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 10:05 p.m. Thursday, Edward Lasley, 48, Greencastle, struck a deer in a 1998 Ford F-150 while driving west on U.S. 36.

Lasley was able to drive the vehicle home from the incident.

Investigating officer Dep. Downing estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 1:03 p.m. Saturday, Susan A. Fivecoat, 53, Thornton, was in a 2013 Ford Edge, following a 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Randal J. Burton, 59, Crawfordsville, when a hay bale fell from the Burton's vehicle.

Thornton advised Dep. Slover that she was unable to avoid the hay bales. Her vehicle was disabled due to the collision with the objects.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 3:06 p.m. Monday, Courtney L. Hoff, 18, Spencer, hit a deer in a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta on U.S. 231, just north of East Tall Oaks Lane.

The deer caused significant damage to the front-end of the vehicle, which had to be towed from the scene.

Investigating officer Dep. Kyle Gibbons estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 3:59 a.m. Sheridan A. Harvey, 36, Greencastle, was in a 2003 Chevrolet Impala when he swerved to miss a deer in the roadway before striking a utility pole.

Harvey left the scene of the incident and when Dep. Tyler Turner arrived to investigate, Harvey was located at his residence and found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Harvey was arrested and placed into the Putnam County Jail for operating while under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 10:32 p.m. Saturday, two people were arrested at a Castlebury Apartments residence for possession of paraphernalia.

Charged in the incident, Sgt. Charles Inman reported, were Morgan Hubble, 24, Greencastle, and Edward Salisbury, 48, Greencastle.

Two recent citations were also issued by city officers.

* At 2:10 a.m. Monday, Tony Williams, 52, Cloverdale, was cited by Officer Nick Eastham.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Williams was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

* At 1:44 a.m. Sunday, Jerry Joe Miller, 52, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Eastham.

Stopped at Shadowlawn and Robinwood avenues, Miller was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department performed one medical assist and responded to five other dispatches this week.

* At 7:10 p.m., Friday, March 27, the GFD responded to a fire alarm at 106. S. Spring St. The alarm was set off due to cooking on the second floor.

* At 10:39 a.m., Saturday, March 28, the GFD was called to the intersection of Bloomington and Anderson streets in reference to a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Once on scene, it was determined there were no injuries, and they assisted with removing debris from the road.

* At 12:28 a.m., Sunday, March 29, the GFD investigated an odor complaint at 304 Millstone Point Drive. The homeowner complained of an odor coming from the events, but nothing was detected.

* At 2:41 a.m, Sunday, March 29, the GFD was called to 300 S. 10th St. in reference to a fire alarm. It was determined the fire alarm was activated due to a compressor going out.

* At 2:06 p.m., Monday, March 30, the GFD responded to a fire alarm at 106 S. Spring St. The alarm was activated due to cooking.
