City Police

Three recent traffic accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 3:07 p.m. Wednesday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on State Road 240 at Fillmore Road.

Officer Jeff Modlin reported that Lisa Bright, 52, Greencastle, was eastbound on State Road 240, driving a 2000 Ford Mustang, when a 1996 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Terry Hamilton, 54, Terre Haute, pulled into Bright's path and a collision occurred.

Hamilton was southbound on Fillmore Road, attempting to turn eastbound onto State Road 240 but pulled out in front of the Mustang, police said.

Total damage was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 10:36 a.m. Saturday, a two-vehicle accident was reported on Bloomington Street near its intersection with Anderson Street.

Richard Swafford, 52, Greencastle, was southbound, driving a 1996 Chevrolet pickup, when he looked down at his coffee cup and didn't realize the vehicle in front of him was stopping due to traffic congestion following the Easter egg hunt at Robe-Ann Park.

A 2005 Chevrolet Colorado, driven by Thomas Hayes, 38, Greencastle, was struck from behind by the Swafford truck, resulting in damage totaling $1,000-$2,500.

A passenger in the Hayes vehicle reportedly hit her head after impact but declined medical treatment at the scene.

Both drivers, however, were cited for violations by Officer Modlin.

Swafford was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license, while Hayes was ticketed for operating without financial responsibility (no insurance).

* At 3:08 p.m. March 26, a two-vehicle accident occurred on Fillmore Road near State Road 240, Officer Darrel Bunten reported.

Teresa Martin, 39, Rockville, was stopped at the stop sign southbound, waiting to turn right on State Road 240, when her 2011 Chrysler Town and Country minivan was struck in the rear by a 1992 Dodge pickup, driven by Jerry Boller, 67, Greencastle.

Boller had stopped behind the Martin vehicle, he said, and pulled forward as traffic cleared, not realizing the van was still stopped in front of him.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.
