John Willard Perkins

John Willard Perkins, 87, passed away Monday, April 6, 2015 at Mill Pond Health Campus in Greencastle.

Born in Hadley, Ind., on April 27, 1927, he was the son of Ottie and Mary Lula (Eggers) Perkins.

He moved to Roachdale when he was five years old. He attended Roachdale School.

He married Ila (Plunkett) Perkins on April 28, 1945 in Roachdale.

John worked on the Monon Railroad for a number of years. Later, he owned and operated gas stations in Roachdale as well as RoBo Car Wash.

John also did carpenter work, building several homes around the community.

In his later years, he and Ila enjoyed spending time in Tennessee camping with friends and family on Watts Bar Lake.

John enjoyed spending time with his family, and having get-togethers.

He was a member of Roachdale Gun Club, Roachdale Fire Department, Roachdale Masonic Lodge and Roachdale VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Ila Perkins; two daughters, Judy Knowling and Drusilla (Patrick) Foley; five grandchildren, John (Michelle) Foley, Julie (Brian) Anderson, Brandon Knowling, Tricia (Jack) Oliver and Jennifer (Chris) Torr, and 11 great-grandchildren, Cody and Josh Oliver, Sheridan, Graham, Callie Knowling, Kaylea and Trevor Torr, Austin Foley, Alex Ames, Tyler and Ashlynn Anderson.

John was one of 10 children, all deceased except one brother, Donnie Perkins (Sharon) of Linden.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, and son-in-law Teddy Knowling.

There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11 at Roachdale Cemetery with Pastor Glen McFarland officiating.

Memorial contributions in John's memory may be made to the Roachdale Fire Department.
