County Jail

Nine people have been lodged in the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 3 p.m. Thursday, Jeffrey Raymond Brown, 36, Greencastle was charged with disorderly conduct.

* At 3:15 p.m. Erica Kay Thompson, 38, Greencastle, was arrested for theft.

* At 4: 25 p.m. Ramon Andren Padilla, 37, Lafayette, was booked on possession of marijuana.

* At 9:50 p.m. Trenton Arid William Van Hook, 20, Camby, was booked on two charges of possession of marijuana, driving while suspended and possession of paraphernalia.

* At 11 p.m. Jason Robert Buchanan, 20, Camby, was arrested for a warrant.

* At 11:10 a.m. Friday, Megan Ann Bass, 29, Staunton, was arrested for intimidation.

* At 10:55 p.m. Sunday, Wayne A. Adams, 41, Poland, was charged with possession of stolen property and failure to appear.

* At 3 p.m. Monday, Michael Allen Kessler, 67, Greencastle, was arrested for domestic battery.

* At 6:50 p.m., Hunter Scott Neal, 18, Greencastle, was booked on charges of theft and burglary.

Sheriff's Department

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department has responded to five incidents recently.

* At 5:11 a.m. Wednesday, a 2003 Pontiac Montana struck a deer while westbound on County Road 200 North.

Guylene Larionne of Coatesville told Deputy Virgil Lanning a deer entered the road but that striking the animal was unavoidable.

Larionne was able to drive away from the scene with damage estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

*At 9:45 a.m. Monday, Col. Tom Helmer responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. 231 and Logan Street.

Dwight W. Wood, 64, Reelsville, advised he was southbound in a 2001 Toyota Camry when a vehicle in front of him had stopped in the left lane to turn onto Logan Street.

As Wood passed the stopped vehicle, advising that his view was obstructed by the stopped vehicle, a collision occurred between Wood and a 1997 Ford F150, driven by Russel W. Ball, 76, Indianapolis.

Ball advised that as he made the left turn, his view of Wood was obstructed by the vehicle Wood was attempting to go around.

Wood struck Ball in the front right of the vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 5:16 p.m. a two-vehicle accident occurred at the U.S. 231 exit of Interstate 70 when Kristen M. Stokes, 22, Fillmore, advised she was stopped on the ramp in a 2003 Ford Explorer due to an automatic traffic signal on U.S. 231.

Johathon C. Henriques, 20, Springhill, Fla., was in a 2013 Chevrolet Spark when he applied the brakes as he came up behind Stokes on the exit ramp but, that the brakes failed before he struck Stokes.

Helmer listed damage at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 8:56 a.m. Saturday, Keegan N. Pelo, 20, Indianapolis, was westbound on U.S. 36 in a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier when he left the roadway on the north shoulder, entered a ditch, hit a culvert, went airborne and came to rest on the roof of the vehicle 350 feet from where he left the roadway.

Citizens came to the aid of Pelo and helped to extricate him from the vehicle before Sgt. Craig Sibbitt arrived at the location.

Pelo was transported for medical attention.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 11:06 a.m. Cameron D. Laxton, 21, Chalmers, advised he lost control of a 2000 Audi A4 while southbound on U.S. 231 near County Road 1100 North.

Laxton left the roadway on the right side and crashed through a fence on private property. Laxton attempted to notify the resident but nobody was home.

The vehicle suffered disabling damage estimated at $2,500-$5,000 by Deputy Adam Hull.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 9:41 p.m. Monday, Lisa Smith, 39, Greencastle, was arrested at a Ravenwood Drive residence for violation of probation.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail after her arrest by Officer Matt Huffman, Smith registered a blood-alcohol level of .102 percent under portable breathalyzer testing.

* At 1:58 a.m. Sunday, Richard A. Romandine, 35, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Kyle Lee at an Avenue C residence.

Romandine, who was lodged in the Putnam County Jail, was booked in on a warrant for theft and resisting law enforcement.

Two recent traffic accidents were investigated by Greencastle officers.

* At 1:40 p.m. Monday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Avenue B near 10th Street.

Dawn Williamson, 55, Greencastle, was eastbound on Avenue B, driving a 2004 Ford Explorer, when she was momentarily distracted by a pedestrian as she approached her First National Bank destination, Capt. Chris Jones reported.

Attempting to turn left into the bank, Williamson's vehicle struck a westbound 2013 TaoTao motor scooter, ridden by Joshua Cunningham, 30, Greencastle, police said.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 6:27 a.m. Saturday, a one-vehicle accident was reported on Bloomington near Maple Street.

Officer Ed Wilson reported that Dylan Romadine, 19, Greencastle, was northbound on Bloomington Street, driving a 2015 Chevrolet Trailblazer when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

The vehicle left the roadway and the driver overcorrected, police said, and struck a utility pole. The vehicle then rotated and struck a second pole, lodging itself between the two poles owned by Duke Energy and Frontier Communications.

Also damaged in the accident by wires being pulled from the two utility poles was the structure at M & R Machine Shop, 406 Maple St.

Total damage was listed at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to three medical assists and numerous dispatches recently.

* At 4:44 a.m., Saturday, April 4, GFD was dispatched to 626 E. Seminary St. to investigate a fire alarm. No issue was found, and the alarm was reset. The alarm went off a second time, so the GFD cleaned the detector and reset it again.

* At 6:30 a.m., Saturday, April 4, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident on Bloomington Street, near Maple Street. There was a single-vehicle accident, in which a vehicle hit a utility pole. The department helped clean debris and stayed on scene until Duke Energy determined the area was safe.

* At 3:10 p.m., Saturday, April 4, GFD arrived at 106 S. Spring St. to investigate a fire alarm. Once on scene, DePauw University police advised the alarm was set off by cooking.

* At 6:56 p.m., Saturday, April 4, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 304 S. Indiana St. The alarm was set off due to cooking.

* At 12:35 p.m., Monday, April 6, GFD was dispatched to 1106 Indianapolis Rd. to investigate a gas leak in and around Pizza Hut. It was determined the smell was coming from the water heater. Vectren was called and the department stayed on scene until their arrival.

* At 1:41 p.m., Monday, April 6, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident at 1132 Avenue B. The department cleaned oil and debris from the car vs. scooter accident.

* At 4:04 p.m., Monday, April 6, GFD investigated a possible oven fire at 111 S. Spring St. There was no fire upon arrival. The oven was set on self-cleaning mode, and the reporting party said she thought she saw sparks. The oven was unplugged and moved away from the wall.

* At 11:08 a.m., Tuesday, April 6, GFD was dispatched to 1750 Indianapolis Rd. to clean debris after a motor vehicle accident.
