Winders' two homers give CHS 5-3 win
CLAY CITY -- Cloverdale's softball team took its early-season success to No. 4 Clay City to face the Eels. The Clovers got into a deficit early but big hits put the Clovers in the lead and earned them a 5-3 win.
After being down one after the first inning, Cloverdale (3-0) scored a run in three consecutive innings and scored two runs in the fifth. From there the Clovers utilized defense to secure the victory.
The offensive game for Cloverdale led to success as three players notched RBIs and junior Kimmy Winders knocked two out of the park and went 3-4 with a single and 3 RBIs.
"We did a nice job of continuing to make plays and win innings despite a few mistakes in the field and on the bases," Clover coach Jim Spencer said. (It was) a good overall night for this early in the season."
With sophomore Lauren Meek on the mound, Cloverdale only gave up eight hits and Meek only walked two with four strikeouts. She is now 3-0.
The defense was also on point for Cloverdale as the Clovers only committed three errors on the night.
CHS' next game is against Monrovia and that is the first of two games against the Bulldogs.
