BRAZIL -- Greencastle and Cloverdale golf teams went out to Forest Park for the Northview Invitation Saturday. Greencastle finished fifth with 328 and CHS finished just behind the Tiger Cubs in sixth place with 329. Sullivan took the event with 301.

"After a very tough week of weather, we were glad to have a day of sunshine and mild winds," Cloverdale coach Doug Wokoun said. "The course was still very wet, but improved as the day progressed.

"Rylan (Mattocks) had an outstanding day, and just missed several other opportunities at lowering his score. Kylar (Galloway) had a few struggles, but much of his round was excellent. Freddy (Fislar) never really found his rhythm, but battled and overcame a ton of obstacles. These three really gave us a big lift in our first outing.

"The great news for us is they played well within their capabilities; there was nothing really special. If they can continue to execute at this level, we will be very competitive."

Jake Buis was the low man for Greencastle, scoring a 71 on the day. Jake Bennett had 84 and Carl Basile had 86.

Jonah Stevens and Blaise Hasty each scored 87 and 92 respectively for Greencastle.

Wokoun was happy to see improvement from his team and is optimistic on the future at Cloverdale.

"Chase never got a comfort level, but hit some good shots. He is a much better player than his score in this tournament, and I am confident that he will battle his way out to scores more reflective of his ability," Wokoun said. "Zach struggled after a good start. He let some mistakes get the better of him mentally. He is still young, and will get himself grounded. We placed in exactly the same place as last year, but our score was much closer to those above us, with the exception of Sullivan, who has an excellent team. Our score was 17 strokes better than last year, which gives us good reason for optimism moving forward."

Cloverdale travels to Rea Park on Monday to play West Vigo. Greencastle's next golf meet is at home against West Vigo on Thursday.
