Cougar boys' golf wins one, loses one

Friday, April 24, 2015

On one of the windiest days of the spring, the Cougar boys' golf team managed to hold onto one win in a three-way meet with Southmont and Western Boone at Twin Bridges on Tuesday.

The Cougars scored a 179 which was lower than Southmont''s 195 but fell short of Western Boone's 166.

Once again the recent rains made for a course saturated in fairways, with unplayable bunkers and lots of casual water and places to never find an embedded ball.

Having just played at Twin Bridges in the Danville Invitational, the teams already knew the course conditions but were having to face the atmospheric conditions of strong, gusty winds. It was a matter of who could best handle the windy conditions to come up with the best team scores.

Austin Judy carded a 41; Jake Holtze shot a 44; Preston Porter shot a 46; Danny Smith and Emmett Holsapple both brought in 48's; Aaron Green shot a 57 and Austin Wright a 69. The team score of 179 was enough to earn a win over Southmont, shooting a 195, but wasn't enough against Western Boone shooting a 166.

Medalist for the meet was Nic Wilson from Western Boone with a 36 for par.

The Cougars play against Tri-West Thursday at Quail Creek and then Saturday in the Southmont Invitational at Crawfordsville Country Club.
