Harold Barger seeks 3rd Ward seat on GOP ticket

Harold Barger, a veteran of state, county and city highway experience and a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, is seeking the Third Ward seat on the Greencastle City Council.

Barger, 65, who resides at 310 Fifth St., is on the Republican ballot in the May 5 city primary.

Serving with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam from 1968-69, Barger is a disabled Vietnam vet and was honorably discharged in 1969.

He has worked various jobs, serving as a correctional officer at the Indiana State Farm (now known as the Putnamville Correctional Facility), as a laborer for the Indiana State Highway Department and as a truck driver/laborer for the Putnam County Highway Department.

Barger also worked for the City of Greencastle Street Department for 10 years as a truck driver, and spent part of that time serving as city inspector.

At present, he's employed part-time at the Putnam County Sheriff's Department as a road crew supervisor.

Barger and his wife Lois have been married for 31 years and are the parents of four sons, Travis, Justin, Leonard and Michael, along with "numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren
