County Jail

Eleven people have been lodged in the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 9:45 a.m. Friday, Benjamin Coy, 35, was arrested for failure to appear.

* At 2:10 p.m. Alex L. Nichols, 20, Greencastle, was booked for battery and disorderly conduct.

* At 2:20 p.m. Jackie Sue Montgomery, 40, Cloverdale, was taken in for battery.

* At 8:50 p.m. Freddie Eugene Spencer, 50, Greencastle, was arrested for battery and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

* At 9:18 p.m. Jarien Zuri Dada, 19, Fort Wayne, was charged with operating while intoxicated and manufacturing marijuana/hashish.

* At 2 a.m. Saturday, Brayton Michael Claycomb, 18, Richmond, was arrested for reckless driving.

* At 3:30 a.m. Quade Douglas Snyder, 21, Roachdale, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

* At 7:15 a.m. Catlin Mankins, 29, Brazil, was booked on a traffic enforcement charge.

* At 2:15 p.m. Brandon Richard Warren, 30, Greencastle, was charged with domestic battery.

* At 4 p.m. John Michael Fields, 28, Indianapolis, was booked for failure to comply.

* At 12:05 a.m. Sunday, Donald Dale Smith, 40, Greencastle, was arrested for domestic battery and intimidation.

City Police

One recent accident was investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 12:06 p.m. Saturday, a two-vehicle mishap occurred on Veterans Memorial Highway at Percy Julian Drive.

Capt. Chris Jones reported that Carl Slake Jr., 50, Roachdale, was eastbound on Veterans Highway, driving a 2003 Ford Ranger, when the pickup was struck from behind by a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Denisa Wineinger, 54, Poland.

Slake had stopped at the stopsign but due to rain and a wet road surface, Wineinger could not get stopped in time to avoid a rear-end collision, Capt. Jones said. She also reported feeling ill at the time.

Total damage was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 9 p.m. Saturday, Ta Shianna Scott, 18, Indianapolis, was stopped in the Walmart parking lot on Indianapolis Road by Officer Matt Huffman.

Scott was cited for reckless possession of paraphernalia.

Two recent traffic citations were also issued by city officers.

* At 1:23 a.m. Monday, Kelly Grover, 21, Evanston, Ill., was ticketed by Officer Nick Eastham.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, south of Martinsville Street, Grover wsa cited for 58 mph in a 30-mph zone.

* At 12:45 a.m. Sunday, Travis Harris, 25, Greencastle was cited by OfficerEastham.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Harris was ticketed for an expired license plate (March 14, 2015).

Sheriff's Department

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department has responded to multiple incidents recently.

* At 5:24 a.m. Friday, Barbara Ann, 59, Terre Haute, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado when she struck a deer, causing significant damage to the hood, grille and bumper.

Investigating officer Deputy Mike Downing estimated damage at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 7:10 a.m. Saturday, Jennifer L. Stafford, 32, Roachdale, was southbound on U.S. 231 just south of County Road 1000 North in a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee when she lost control of the vehicle due to the rear passenger tire going flat.

Stafford's vehicle rotated counter-clockwise across the northbound lane, striking a guardrail before coming to rest on the east side of the roadway.

Lt. Donnie Pettit estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 2:42 p.m. Leland H. Wiggam, 69, Brownsburg,was eastbound on State Road 240 when his 2013 Acura ran off the roadway for an unknown reason.

Wiggam entered the ditch, struck a driveway culvert and became airborne before coming to rest on the east side of the driveway.

Sgt. Gregg Slover estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 3:42 p.m. Terry J. White, 46, Greencastle, was crossing the intersection of State Road 240 and State Road 75 in a 2003 Ford F250 when he struck a 1997 Jeep Cherokee being driven by Isaiah D. Scherrer, 19, Danville.

Sgt. Gregg Slover was advised by White that he was stopped at the intersection but did not see Scherrer because of a blind spot.

After impact, Scherrer rotated counter-clockwise and left the west side of State Road 75, rolling at least two times before coming to rest.

Scherrer was able to exit the vehicle but was transported for medical assistance with a complaint of pain.

Damages were estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 9:18 p.m. Garry E. Howard, 62, Brazil, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 2011 Kia OES when he struck a deer in the roadway.

Howard's vehicle made initial impact on the front-right bumper, with the deer continuing down the side of the vehicle causing moderate damage from the front to the rear of the vehicle.

Deputy Kyle Gibbons estimated damage at $1,001-$5,000.
