Fire damages Martinsville Street home

Firefighters responded to a small house fire on Martinsville Street Tuesday evening, finding smoke throughout the home but containing the actual fire to a small area.

Greencastle firefighters arrived at the small brick house behind Stone's Auto Body after 8 p.m. to find smoke coming out of a back window.

Upon entering the house, the found the fire contained to a small area in one room. Responders were able to knock down the flames rather quickly.

Investigation showed the fire likely originated behind a television.

No one was home at the time of the incident.

As of press time, contact had not been made with the occupant. A damage estimate was also not available.

GFD was assisted at the scene by Madison Township, Cloverdale, Bainbridge and Fillmore Fire Departments, as well as by Operation Life, Greencastle Police Department and the Red Cross.
