CLOVERDALE -- The winds have not been very nice to golfers this season and Thursday when Cloverdale and Greencastle's golf teams squared off at Clover Meadows.

CHS came in second with 175 and Greencastle was third with 180. Plainfield had 167.

The medalist on the night was Greencastle's Jake Buis. He notched a 38.

The low man for Cloverdale was Kylar Galloway who had just a few strokes more than Buis at 41.

"It was another night of cool temps and strong winds," CHS coach Doug Wokoun. "Everyone had some struggles with the wind, so Jake Buis' round was really solid. Kylar had a very good round, and has bounced back from some earlier difficulties. Freddy (Fislar) got some things ironed out and we think he is making steps in the right direction."

Fislar scored a 42 for Cloverdale, Rylan Mattocks notched a 44 and Chase Snyder scored a 48.

"Rylan is back after missing two matches and had a little rust, but played most of the round pretty well," Wokoun said. "Chase is on the road to recovery as well. He really struggled on Monday but improved 10 strokes in this match."

The GHS golfers, according to coach Stephen Paquin could've played better around and on the greens.

"Concentration was the Cubs problem in tonight's match," Paquin said. "Too many missed greens and putts put too much pressure on our young players to shoot a good score. The Clovers were better able to handle the weather and course conditions and consequently shot a better score."

Jake Bennett shot a 44 for Greencastle while his teammates Lucas Gillen, Blaze Hasty and Jonas Stevens scored a 49 each. Carl Basile rounded out the scoring at 51.

Wokoun is impressed by his county and looks forward to seeing his competition grow.

"Greencastle has a young group and is looking for consistency, but they have some players that I think will be excellent pretty soon," he said. "There is no substitute for experience, and they are doing a good job of competing as they get that experience."

Clovers Zach Nichols and Drew Boyette score 53 and 58 respectively.

Cloverdale (5-3) travels to the Brownsburg Invitational Saturday. GHS wil host the Tiger Cub Invitational on Saturday.
