100 Women Who Care to give back

Friday, May 1, 2015

While we're all gearing up for warmer weather, the ladies of 100 Women Who Care are also gearing up to give back.

On Wednesday, May 6, the organization 100 Women Who Care Putnam County will meet for the second time this year to give back to a deserving non-profit in the community.

The meeting will be hosted by Jackie Eitel and Susan Price and will take place at the Area 30 Career Center, where Mary Anne Birt's students will be showing off their culinary skills. The event will begin with a 5-6 p.m. social hour, followed by the meeting from 6-7 p.m.

Judy Miller from the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry will be giving an update on how the food pantry has used or is planning to use the $11,600 received at the November 2014 meeting.

Anticipation is mounting to find out who will join The Castle Program as a 2015 recipient.

It's not too late to become a member. Here's how it works: 100 Women Who Care Putnam County is a group of women who share a common desire to give back to the community. The group is open to all women -- the more women who get involved, the greater the impact will be.

The group allows busy women to become involved by giving back to the local community in a fun way. Members meet four times each year for one hour. At each meeting, members may submit the name of a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity or a government entity to be included in a drawing.

Three submissions are drawn. Each of those selected are given five minutes to present the organization and its services. Questions may be asked following each presentation. At the end of the presentations, members vote, ballots are counted and a winner is announced.

Each member contributes $100 to the selected nonprofit. The total commitment for the year is $500 with $100 donated to the Putnam County Community Foundation for the 100 Women Who Care Endowment, and $100 given to each of the four charities chosen throughout 2015.

The 100 Women Who Care of Putnam County Steering Committee is comprised of Julie Thompson (chairman), Kelli Croan, Kate Knaul, Emily Knuth, Suzanne Masten, Beva Miller, Caitlyn Milliman, Elaine Peck, Susan Price and Cheryl Selvey.
