Cloverdale golfs at Brownsburg

BROWNSBURG -- The Clover golf team had a tough time at the Brownsburg Invite, where 18 schools went to golf in the beautiful Saturday weather.

"We started at the beginning of the back nine, and our start was pretty good," CHS Doug Wokoun said. "Our score at the end of nine was solidly in the middle of the pack after nine, and we had a few blips along the way. I thought we might get something going at that point."

Unfortunately the Clovers never got the golf ball rolling and finished 17th. Rylan Mattocks' score of 79 was the only score lowers than 80 for Cloverdale. Wokoun said the team's play did not mesh with the front nine.

"The front nine, our second nine, was a completely different story," Wokoun said. "The weather became very pleasant, but our game kind of disintegrated. Rylan actually had a better score on the front, but it was our lone highlight. He finished eight strokes behind the medalist, and I was really proud of his second nine. He wasn't feeling well on the first nine, but he really bounced back."

Cloverdale still holds a 5-3 record and with certain players looking good at points, the disappointing result at Brownsburg shouldn't keep CHS down for long.

"Kylar (Galloway) simply ran out of gas on the back, and couldn't overcome some of his rough patches," Wokoun said. "Zarek (Wellington) and Zach (Nichols) struggled all day, and never found any real consistency. Chase (Snyder) had a really good front nine, playing some of the best golf he has played this spring. He could not sustain that on the back, and had a very disappointing finish."

Cloverdale travels to Quail Creek to play the Tri-West and South Putnam on Monday.
