Mental Health America of Putnam County hosted its annual meeting Thursday and honored two "Heroes in the Fight Against Mental Illness. South Putnam Principal Kieth Puckett (left) presented the Educator of the Year Award to South Putnam Middle/High School Dean of Students Dan Bain. Bain was credited for working closely with students and staff to ensure everyone worked together and succeeded. When South Putnam received a D grade a few years ago, Bain took it upon himself to give up the assistant pricipal position to become the Dean of Students. Puckett noted Bain's work ethic is contagious. MHAPC Executive Director Eileen Johnson (right) presented intern Jacob Weeks with the Annual Person of the Year Award. He has served as an intern for two years, and is finishing up his psychology degree at DePauw University this year. Weeks said receiving the award is better than anything he could have done in school because it shows he made a difference.

  • Dan Bain is an exceptional educator and person. I have never known anyone who cared more about children and tirelessly worked for ALL students. He is most deserving!
