SWCD presents spring forestry workshop: Woodlands Beyond the Wood

The Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District will take part in an educational tour of Sycamore Trails RC&D Froehde Woods at the 2015 Spring Forestry Workshop-Woodlands Beyond the Wood on Saturday, May 16.

Sycamore Trails RC&D Froehde Woods is located north off of U.S. 40 at the intersection of Hunt Road and Roberts Road in Terre Haute. The cost of the workshop is $5 and RSVP must be received by May 12.

Sponsors of this event are Clay, Vigo, Parke, Putnam and Sullivan County SWCDs, Sycamore Trails RC&D Forestry, Invasive and Education Committees, Seitzinger Forestry LLC and Rick's Smokehouse & Grill.

Registration will take place from 8:30-9 a.m. Then, from 9-11 a.m., Karen Staub of Sycamore Trails RC&D Forestry/Invasive/Education Committee will lead an educational walk through the woods that will help us identify edible and medicinal plants that may grow in your own woods.

After a walk with Karen, our Indiana-Department of Natural Resources-District Forester, Jeremiah Lemmons and Perry Seitzinger of Seitzinger Forestry, LLC, will do an educational segment from 11 a.m.-noon on the topic of the Emerald Ash Borer. They will help identify plants it and help educate attendees what to do if they do find them on their property.

Lunch from noon-1 p.m. is sponsored by Seitzinger Forestry, LLC and catered by Rick's Smokehouse.

After lunch from 1-2 p.m., Raoul Moore of Sycamore Trails RC&D Forestry/Invasive Committee will help identify Invasive Plants and teach how to eradicate them. He will also be available to answer any questions.

Plan to dress according to the agenda and weather and don't forget a chair for lunch as space and seating are limited. RSVP is due by May 12 and is required in order to get an accurate food count.
