County Jail

Eight people have been lodged at the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 10:35 p.m. Friday, Dakota Martin, 25, Quincy, was arrested for failure to appear.

* At 11:52 p.m. Saturday, James Michael Hurst, 28, Greencastle, was booked for failure to appear.

* At 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Troy Steven Dutcher, 44, Greencastle, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

* At 2:45 p.m. Monday, Jared Lee Hornaday, 25, Fillmore, was arrested for nonsupport of a dependent.

* At 3:15 p.m. Daphne Delp-Glendy, 26, Indianapolis, was charged with probation violation.

* At 3:52 p.m. Lindsey Jo Strother, 29, Avon, was arrested for failure to appear.

* At 4:42 p.m. Vernon Allen Hendrickson, 59, Greencastle, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

* At 5:50 p.m. Jason Dewayne Richey, Greencastle, was arrested for domestic battery and criminal recklessness.

Sheriff's Department

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department has responded to several accidents recently.

* At 11:27 p.m. Friday, Jacob W. Berry, 17, Roachdale, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado when he lost traction due to surface conditions.

Berry advised investigating officer Deputy Kyle Gibbons and Deputy Tyler Turner that he had lost control of the pickup truck on a bridge due to the wet pavement, slid into the bridge barrier and went into an uncontrollable skid.

The vehicle traveled across the roadway and struck the barrier on the opposite side of the road, coming to rest facing south on the northbound lane of traffic.

With significant damage done to the front end, right side and undercarriage of the vehicle, total damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.

* At 7:46 p.m. Sunday, William C. Phelps, 66, Owensboro, was traveling on U.S. 231, just north of County Road 800 South, when he was involved in an accident resulting in injury.

Upon arrival, Deputy Turner found Phelps in a 2012 Dodge Ram facing north in the southbound lane of traffic.

Witness Anthony Cardinal, Vincennes, informed Turner that as he drove south, he noticed the Dodge Ram cross the center line and then swerve and hit a guardrail.

Phelps could not remember the accident, only being able to remember swerving and getting out of the vehicle afterward.

Phelps was checked for possible head trauma and transported to Methodist Hospital.

Damage was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department performed four medical runs and four other dispatches recently.

* At 4:31 p.m. Friday, May 8, GFD was dispatched to a fire alarm at 402 Anderson Street. A laptop in the residence overheated and melted the battery. The carpet had charred marks from the incident, but the fire did not spread.

* At 11:28 p.m. Friday, May 8, GFD assisted with clean up following a motor vehicle accident on Walnut Creek Bridge

* At 12:53 p.m. Saturday, May 9, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 107 W. Hannah St. It was determined the alarm was activated due to cooking.

* At 7:55 p.m. Monday, May 11, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 415 S. Locust St. It was determined the alarm was activated due to cooking.
