A Greencastle woman was taken to the hospital and will face criminal charges following a one-vehicle mishap on U.S. 231 in Monroe Township Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly after 2 p.m., 41-year-old Brandy Lynn Turner was northbound on U.S. 231 when she lost control of her Ford Crown Victoria just north of County Road 200 North, crossing the southbound lane and colliding with a large tree.

After sustaining significant left front damage, the car came to rest on the southbound shoulder, a little north of the point of impact.

While Turner escaped serious injury, she was transported to Putnam County Hospital by Operation Life with a complaint of ankle pain.

Turner told Putnam County Sheriff's Department Lt. Dwight Simmons there was a lot of play in the steering wheel and she simply lost control of the car.

Criminal charges will be filed, as Turner admitted to being a habitual traffic violator.

Among a number of past felony and misdemeanor charges, Turner faced a similar charge in a 2011 Putnam County case.

In 2007, she was found guilty on Owen County charges of operating while intoxicated after her license was forfeited for life.

Simmons said the matter remained under investigation Wednesday afternoon, as other contributing factors could be in play.

The Greencastle Fire Department and Kenny's Wrecker Service also responded to the accident, contributing to clean-up effort. PCSD Deputy Josh Boller assisted with traffic control.
