ROCKVILLE -- The successful drilling of seven water wells this year by Rotary and the Water for Life organization in Haiti was reviewed at a recent meeting of the Rockville Rotary Club.

Rotary project coordinator Mike Ruark, a Putnam County native who now resides at Raccoon Lake, and Haitian facilitator and interpreter Martin Glesil of Port-au-Prince put on the informative program abut the water well project. Ruark, originally from the Fillmore area, is a 1968 Fillmore High School graduate.

The presentation featured a PowerPoint slide program about the project and some related scenes from Haiti.

Both men were part of the on-site team involved in the humanitarian drilling of the wells in very poor areas near the city of Jérémie.

The Haiti water well partnership includes Indiana Rotary clubs from Rockville, Crawfordsville, Lafayette (Daybreak) and Westfield and the Les Cayes, Haiti, club.

Additional support came from the Rotary Foundation along with the Water for Life organization of Haiti.

The Rotary Club of Rockville is one of more than 34,000 Rotary International clubs worldwide promoting community service, peace and understanding.

The club normally meets each Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the banquet room at the Thirty-Six Saloon in Rockville.
