Cougars end boys' golf season with wins

ROACHDALE --It was a successful year for the North Putnam boys' golf team, taking a final regular season win on Thursday against Fountain Central. All players contributed the scores to card a 173 over a Fountain Central 215.

Danny Smith and Jake Holtze shared medalist honors by shooting a pair of 42s. Logan Grim came in with a 43 and Emmett Holsapple carded the final score of 46. Austin Judy struggled after the first three holes with drives and putting, scoring a 47. Preston Porter shared the 47 and was consistent with the scores he has been shooting as of late, but two penalties got him into trouble.

Aaron Green carded his best score of the year with a 48. Travis Pearl struggled with too many three putts and penalties, shooting a 58.

The Cougars had two meets last week in which the players continued to show improvements in fairway hits and putting. On May 19, the Cougars won a three-way meet against South Putnam and Danville. The Cougars came in with a strong 162, Danville a 187, and South Putnam a 210. Danny Smith was medalist with a great 35 and Austin Judy shot a strong 37. Jake Holtze had a slight off-night, shooting more boogies than normal and encountered a couple penalties. Logan Grim finished the four score with an impressive 46. Emmett Holsapple carded a respectful 47 and Aaron Green a 57.

On May 21, the Cougars traveled to Deer Creek to face Cascade. The last time the Cougars and Cadets met up was at home with a tie, and Cougars won the tie breaker with their fifth man score.

The Cougars had good, consistent play out of Danny Smith (45), Emmett Holsapple (45), Logan Grim (45), and Preston Porter (44). Jake Holtze was low man for the Cougars with a 39 followed by Austin Judy's 40. Good play by Aaron Green with a 54, Travis Pearl a 59, and Austin Wright a 67, all brought forth a good night of golf by all players.

The Cougars have a week to try to focus intensely as a team on the upcoming sectionals on June 5 at 1 p.m. at Crawfordsville Municipal golf course.
