Mike White reappointed to Greencastle School Board

Sunday, May 31, 2015

Following a term in which he rather quickly become the most tenured member of the Greencastle School Board, Mike White will continue his tenure with another four-year appointment.

One of two Greencastle Township appointments, White was chosen for a second term by trustee Steve Butts and advisory board members Karen Ambler, Marilyn Clearwaters and Charles Miles.

"Michael and the members of the school board have enjoyed many accomplishments in the past term," Butts said. "We look forward to the same success in the coming four years."

White was introduced as a new school board member four years ago, alongside veteran members Mike Dean, Bruce Stinebrickner, Kelly Lewis and Monica Fennell.

Within a year, Fennell and Lewis had both resigned to pursue other professional interests. In June 2012, Denise Sigworth was chosen to replace Stinebrickner on the board, leaving White as the second most tenured board member just one year into his term.

Besides the turnover in the board ranks, 2012 was eventful for administrative changes at the highest levels of the corporation. CFO Clayton Slaughter was terminated for allowing $3 million in checks to go undeposited and the principal position at Greencastle High School changed hands twice, from Randy Corn to Jennifer Shepherd to current Principal Russ Hesler.

Then in December, after much public outcry, the corporation and Superintendent Lori Richmond parted ways.

The corporation has enjoyed relatively smooth sailing since, with GCSC veterans Dawn Puckett and Hesler taking over the superintendent and GHS principal positions, respectively.

With the replacement of Dean by Dale Pierce in 2013, White became the most senior member of the board, and has served as board president the last two years.

White is one of two Greencastle Township picks for the appointed GCSC School Board.

Fellow Greencastle Township representative Gary Haussin's term will expire in June 2016.

The Greencastle City Council appointed Sigworth and Lisa Lazar, whose appointments are up in June 2016 and June 2018, respectively.

Pierce's Madison Township seat will expire in June 2017.
