First Friday events to include music, food, fun

Tuesday, June 2, 2015

The second Greencastle First Friday event of the season again promises to bring music, food and fun to the courthouse square this Friday, June 5.

Most vendors will be open for business from 5-7 p.m. on the north side of the square (Franklin Street) with music taking over from 7-9 p.m. on the courthouse stage at the north steps.

Food will be available in at least two locations with Almost Home grilling Myers' Market products, while the annual fish fry is under way at the historic Greencastle Masonic Temple from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

This week's music will include the duo Him and Her (Joel and Tosh Everson) performing from 7-8 p.m., followed by young local singer-songwriter Carly Rhine from 8-9.

The music scene will then move indoors at The Swizzle Stick with the Eversons being joined by the rest of their War Radio group for its regular first Friday of the month gig at the bar.

Some of the other planned activities downtown include:

-- Demonstrations and information at a booth set up by the Putnam County Extension Office concerning 4-H activities and Extension Homemakers groups such as the Putnam County Spinners and the Photography Club.

-- A bubble station for children and the young at heart to be manned by North Putnam County Girl Scouts.

-- A booth operated by Greencastle Farmers' Market representative Heather Perkins, who will be selling flats of garden plants, including tomatoes, as a preview to Saturday's weekly Farmers' Market on the square.

-- A pop-up booth featuring Pap's Metal Yard Art creations by John Crosby.

-- The "Fun and Fellowship" tent set up by the Greencastle Rotary Club.
