Defenders of Liberty to hear Joy Pullmann

Tuesday, June 2, 2015

If the U.S. Supreme Court nationalizes same-sex marriage in June, the effects could be far bigger than merely allowing gay couples to receive the legal benefits (and disadvantages) of marriage, says Joy Pullmann, managing editor of The Federalist.

Pullmann will speak at the next Greencastle Defenders of Liberty meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 8 in the Dixie Chopper Business Center at Putnam County Airport, 102 Ballard Lane, Greencastle.

She will explore the unfolding consequences of the sexual revolution, particularly focusing on the recent Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) situation in Indiana, "the pickle" it makes for Americans who adhere to any of the world's major religions, and how Americans can reinforce First Amendment freedoms.

Pullmann is a nationally known speaker who travels extensively to discuss education policy, self-government and family. She was formerly managing editor of School Reform News at the Heartland Institute, a state-focused national think tank, and assistant editor of The American magazine at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C.

The Federalist is a national publication that focuses on politics, religion and culture.

A graduate of the Hillsdale College honors program, she is recipient of a 2013-14 Robert Novak journalism fellowship for in-depth research and reporting on Common Core national education mandates. That fellowship's reporting will soon become Pullmann's second book.

A Hoosier, Pullmann who lives with her husband and four children in northern Indiana.

The Greencastle Defenders of Liberty meet the second Monday of every month. The meetings are open to the public.
