Oakland City University sophomore CARLIE RENE NICHOLS of Fillmore was recently named to the dean's for the spring semester.

The daughter of Mitch and Marcia Nichols, Carlie is an English major slated to graduate in the spring of 2017.

In addition to her coursework, Nichols is also a sportswriter for the campus newspaper, the Collegian.

This is the first time Nichols has received dean's list honors.


Greencastle residents NICOLE BOYLE and JORDYN PITTS both graduated from Anderson University on Saturday, May 9.

Approximately 450 undergraduate and graduate students received degrees during the ceremony. Commencement speaker was Dr. James L. Edwards, president emeritus of Anderson University.

Pitts was also named to the dean's list in the spring semester, having earned a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Anderson University is a private, four-year, Christian liberal arts institution located in Anderson.


South Putnam graduate CODY WARREN was among the Franklin College students inducted into Chi Beta Phi, a scientific honor society, on Tuesday, April 7 in the Johnson Center for Fine Arts.

Chi Beta Phi is a national scientific honorary for undergraduates majoring in biology, psychology, chemistry, physics, computer science and mathematics. The purpose of Chi Beta Phi is "to promote interest in science and to give recognition to scholarly attainment in science."

Members are juniors and seniors selected from a pool of all science students based on their academic performance and grade point average.

Students were also recognized for their membership in Chi Beta Phi at Franklin College's annual Spring Honors Convocation on April 28.

Cody is the son of Ronald Warren and Tricia Warren, both of Reelsville.


North Putnam graduate NATHAN BRYAN was among the 13 Franklin College students recently inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha, a national political science honor society, chartered on campus in 1990.

These students have completed the requisite hours of political science coursework and have met certain other GPA requirements in order to be offered membership into the society. Membership indicates the student's high academic achievement in the area of political science. The group works closely with the American Political Science Association.

All members have the opportunity to apply for scholarships through the organization and to attend and present work at the organization's academic conference. Students who receive the honor to be a member of the society are given a medallion to wear that indicates membership.

Nate is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Bryan of Greencastle.


Residential mortgage lender Ruoff Home Mortgage announced that VP and Greencastle branch manager, CYNTHIA MATTOX, was the top loan originator for their Greencastle office for the month of May 2015.

The top spot in each branch office is based on the number of closed loans during the month, as compared to their fellow peers.

Mattox joined Ruoff Home Mortgage in late December 2014. She started in the banking/lending industry 20 years ago. This is her third month of earning the top spot honors.


Four Putnam County students earned a position on the University of Evansville Dean's List for academic achievements during the Spring Semester 2015.

* SARAH CHEATHAM of Greencastle is an athletic training major.

* SARAH DORY of Greencastle is an electrical engineering major.

* KATHARINE SHERWOOD of Fillmore is an accounting major.

* KATRINA WOODY of Greencastle is a creative writing major.

To make the Dean's List, a student at UE must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
