Cloverdale Community Day set for Saturday
CLOVERDALE -- Residents are invited to participate in a Community Day sponsored by the town Saturday.
Cloverdale Clerk-Treasurer Cheryl Galloway said this event is an extension of the town's 175th birthday party celebrated last year, which turned out to be a success. The town hopes the Community Day will continue to be an annual event to bring neighbors together.
"The goal is to get the community out and meet their neighbors, like they did in the old fashion days," Galloway said.
The day will start with the Cloverdale Lions Club Roaring 5K run/walk. Registration will be from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Cloverdale High School football parking lot. The cost to participate in the run/walk is $25.
The funds raised from the race will help local people in the community with vision screening, eye glasses, hearing aids and provide scholarships to CHS seniors.
The event will continue around Cloverdale Town Hall with vendors set up on Logan and Water Streets, as well as live entertainment starting around 10 a.m.
Vendors that have already signed up include Endeavor Communications, Crystal Gypsies, Tammy Burgess IT Works, Soul Harvest church will provide face painting and the Church of the Nazarene will be selling cotton candy.
Galloway stressed the free vendor spaces will be signed up until the day of the event. If electricity is needed the vendor will need to bring an extension cord. Anyone interested can contact Town Hall at 795-6033.
People in the community are encouraged to set up yard sales around town the day of the event. Galloway said she expects several people to have sales going on throughout the town on the day of the event. There will be no permit required to host a yard sale during the Community Day.
Cloverdale Police Chief Mike Clark said the department's K9, Chewy, will be in attendance at the community day. Last year's celebration served as a fundraiser to bring Chewy to the department, so the community will be able to meet the K9 they helped purchase.
There will be K9 demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., although the location has yet to be determined. Clark said the location will depend on the weather and finding a shady place for Chewy.
Galloway said she is still seeking volunteers to help with planning, set up and directing traffic throughout the event.
