Brazil Concert Band presents Father's Day concert

Monday, June 15, 2015

The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber, will celebrate Fathers' Day, with "Dad's The King!" Sunday, June 21 at 8 p.m. at Forest Park in Brazil, rain or shine.

All musical selections in the free concert will be by Karl L. King (1891-1971).

King composed more than 300 works for band, led circus and rodeo bands and was director of the Fort Dodge, Iowa Band for more 50 years.

In fact, three BCB seasons of concerts could be all Karl King without ever repeating a selection.

His timeless music is a staple with fine bands all over the world.

King was born in Paintersville, Ohio, and played the euphonium.

The BCB will present two of his best overtures, "The Princess of India" and "The Golden Dragon."

King's "Enchanted Night" and "A Night in June," reflect romantic serenades.

"The Walking Frog," "Kentucky Sunrise," "The Big Cage," and "In Old Portugal" were for circus acts.

King is best known for super circus marches and the BCB offers "The Huntress," "Barnum and Bailey's Favorite," "Robinson's Grand Entree," "Sells-Floto Triumphal" and "Cyrus the Great."

Attendees are invited to bring Dad to celebrate with the BCB.
