On June 16, 2015, Rev. James Moore of Bloomington, Ind., went home to be with his Lord and Savior following a long illness.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marjorie (Sedam) Moore; daughter Karen Hunter (Steve), son Kevin Moore (Michelle), son Kelly Moore (Patricia), and daughter Kamela Duff (Eric); 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother Gene Moore (Betty) and sister Carolyn Janes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Grace Moore, sisters Laurance Drescher, Mary Frazier and Kaye Moore; brother Robert Moore; and grandson infant Joseph Duff.

Born in Eminence, Ky., on Dec 31, 1935, James attended Georgetown University in Georgetown, Ky., and was an elementary school teacher in Vernon, Ind., as he started his ministry career.

Rev. Moore served as pastor of several American Baptist Churches in towns across Indiana, including Butlerville, Cannelton, Indianapolis, Belle Union, Garrett and three churches in the Bloomington area -- Little Union, New Prospect and McDoel.

He retired from full-time ministry in 1997 and continued to serve in several interim roles.

His ministry spanned more than 50 years as a pastor. His ministry focused on bringing the message of salvation to the lost and helping believers live according to God's plan.

He was a member and Sunday School teacher at McDoel Baptist Church in Bloomington.

He was a kind, gentle and loving person who never failed to reach out to those in need. His gift of encouragement to his congregation, friends and family will be missed. He was a lifelong fan of University of Kentucky basketball, often wearing his blue colors.

Well done, good and faithful servant.

Visitation is scheduled for 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 18 at Day and Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., Bloomington, with services set for Friday, June 19 at 11 a.m.

Burial will be in Dupont, Ind. Officiants are Rev. Myron Young and his wife Millicent.
