WALTER FRANCIS PETER CHIARELLA graduated from the University of the South during 2015 commencement ceremonies held in All Saints' Chapel on the Sewanee campus on May 10.

Chiarella, of Greencastle, was awarded a BA in environmental studies: natural resources and the Environment.

Walter is the son of Lisa C. Head and of Tom C. Chiarella.

The University of the South, familiarly known as Sewanee, is an independent liberal arts college owned by 28 dioceses of the Episcopal Church and located on 13,000 acres atop Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau. It has been consistently ranked among the top tier of national liberal arts colleges.


CHELSEA R. SAMUELS of Greencastle was among the 550 students awarded degrees as part of the May 2015 graduating class of Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill.

Samuels earned a BA in exercise science from Elmhurst.

Elmhurst College is a leading four-year college that seamlessly blends liberal learning and professional preparation to educate the whole student for life in a global society. Approximately 3,200 full- and part-time students are enrolled in its 25 undergraduate academic departments and more than 15 graduate degree programs.


Eight Putnam County scholars were among the nearly 1,400 students eligible to participate in the spring 2015 University of Indianapolis commencement ceremony on May 2.

Those completing their degrees included:

* From Greencastle: EMILY CHERRY, cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science; Charles Cooper, with a Bachelor of Science; Joseph Lenihan, with Bachelor of Science; KEEGAN REMSBURG, with a Bachelor of Science; and MATTHEW SHEFFLER with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

* TRAVIS STANIFER of Cloverdale, with a Bachelor of Science.

* LAUREN GREEEN from Bainbridge, with Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

* LOREN ASHCRAFT of Fillmore, with a Master of Occupational Therapy.


The University of Indianapolis has announced its dean's list and honor roll for the second semester of the 2014--15 academic year.

Students named to the honor roll have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours during a regular semester and earned a grade point average of at least 3.4 but less than 3.7.

Honor roll students included KATHERINE SPENCER of Fillmore; ASHLYN YORK of Greencastle; and SHELBY JOHNSON of Reelsville.

Dean's list students have completed at least 12 credit hours and earned a grade point average of 3.7 or higher.

Dean's list students include EMILY CHERRY, CHARLES COOPER, KYLE DUNBAR and ELIZABETH JOHNSON of Greencastle.
