Putnam County Star auditions this weekend

Anyone looking to be the next Putnam County Star needs to be at the Putnam County Fairgrounds this weekend. The chance to join 2014 winner Cord Watkins and 2013 star Melissa Claycomb begins at Harris Hall on Saturday and Sunday.

Tryouts for the third annual singing contest at the Putnam County Fair are set for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 27 and 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, June 28.

This year, the contest has been opened up to a wider range of ages, with vocalists 13-50 years old eligible to try out and compete.

Organizers only request a 90-second a cappella song for the preliminary judges on either day of auditions. Singers may also use an acoustic instrument, but none will be provided.

Participants need not be Putnam County residents.

Those selected as finalists will go on to the multi-night competition at the 2015 Putnam County Fair, which will take place from July 17-25.
