Putnam County SWCD to host conservation tour
Putnam County SWCD will be hosting a farm-to-table conservation tour on Aug. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
The tour will begin at the home of Mark and Phyllis Legan, Legan Livestock and Grain at 8:30 a.m.
Participants will board buses to two other sites to view farm machinery, precision agriculture, stewardship of farmers with conservation practices and raising produce beyond the traditional row crops.
The tour will highlight best management practices farmers use to protect the soil and water quality, farm machinery and precision agriculture that goes into a conservation cropping systems, how knowing where your food comes from benefits you and your health, and wildlife enhancements that benefits our pollinators, birds, butterflies and beyond.
The culmination of this event will be tasting locally grown foods back at the Legans' home. Participants will sample the cuisine from Putnam County. Vendors will be available with items to purchase from the event as well.
