John E. Shoemaker

John E. Shoemaker, 87, passed away on Thursday, July 2 at Putnam County Hospital.

He was born April 13, 1928 in Floyd Township to Worley and Edna Katherine (Dicks) Shoemaker.

John married Betty Lee Whitaker on Aug. 12, 1950 and she survives.

Also surviving are daughter Janice Rissot (Jeff) of Noblesville, son Doug Shoemaker of Reelsville, grandsons Jacob and Jordan Rissot, brother Roy Shoemaker (Ann) of Greencastle and a large extended family and friends.

John enlisted in the U.S. Army on Nov. 2, 1950 and served in the Korean War. He received two Purple Hearts and one Bronze Star.

John was employed by IBM and retired after 31 years.

He loved gardening, fishing and NASCAR racing.

Preceding John in death were brothers Lee and Russell Shoemaker and sister Mary Lou Alsop.

A memorial service, a celebration of John's life, will be held in the near future.
