Pair of events support Fairgrounds endowments

To the Editor:

Saturday, June 27 was a day of celebration for the Putnam County Fairgrounds Endowment. We began the day with our inaugural "I'm a FAIR Runner" 5K Walk/Run.

This 5K was held on the fairgrounds and gave participants a chance to see the fairgrounds up close and personally.

A big thanks to Gary and Julie Stevens for mapping out the course on the grounds and for Farm Credit Mid-America for providing water bottles for all participants.

Later that evening, we held our 2015 Putnam County Fair Kick-Off with a hog roast and DJ services by Keith Byers Entertainment.

Many thanks to Legan Livestock and Grain for the generous donation of a hog for the event and to Scobee Meats for their processing and cooking of the hog. Thanks also are to be given to our sponsors, Co-Alliance, Land O' Lakes and CountryMark. All proceeds from both events go to the endowment.

The Putnam County Fairgrounds Endowment provides a sustainable source of revenue for maintenance and capital improvements of the Putnam County Fairgrounds. Every contribution is important and puts us one step closer to preserving the fairgrounds for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Appreciates prompt service from city

To The Editor:

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the City of Greencastle Wastewater Department for their efforts a couple of weeks ago at Headley Hardware.

When we experienced backed-up toilets (always a favorite), we assumed it was blocked in our lateral pipe and we would be responsible.

We had Spiker Excavating come and pop the manhole covers, and we saw no flow in either direction.

We called the sewage department and they had a crew here in less than 30 minutes. They determined it was the main that was blocked, and after two hours, we were flowing again.

So, we at Headley Hardware want to say "thank you and a job well done" to all that helped that day.

Celebrate 4 events, fireworks the work of many

To the Editor:

On Saturday, July 4 the temperatures were perfect, humidity low and Robe-Ann Park was filled with activities. From the Rokicki Run at 8 a.m. until the last shots of the fireworks finale were silenced at 10:26 p.m. our park was bustling with visitors.

The city's Park and Rec staff and countless volunteers worked tirelessly to prepare for the day as we gathered to celebrate our country's birthday and the many men and women who have, and continue to give of themselves to protect our freedoms and families.

The Celebrate 4 event would not happen without the Friends of the Park Association, our city departments and the citizens of this greater Greencastle community.

All costs associated with the event are donated or covered through monetary contributions or entrance fees.

Our financial sponsors were the Banner Graphic, Big Bounce Fun House, DePauw University, Joe Spiker Excavating, Teachers Credit Union, First National Bank, Fraternal Order of Eagles Covered Bridge, Headley Hardware, Hendricks Power, the Inn at DePauw, Poet Bio-refining and WREB. We are also grateful to Buzzi Unicem, Bittles and Hurt/Hopkins Rector funeral homes, Casey's General Store, Cash Concrete, Chiyoda Corporation, Co-Alliance, Friends of the Park Association, HBG Insurance and Bonds, Jackson Hewitt Tax Services, Greencastle Kiwanis, McDonald's/Jedele Enterprises, Millstone Pointe, North Salem State Bank, Old National Bank, Dr. Dale Oliver, Putnam County Community Foundation, Brad Tucker State Farm Insurance, Sustainable Stream and Water Solutions, Alliance Credit Union, BPO Elks No. 1077, Baker's Septic, Greencastle Hometown Dental, Hayes, Murphy, Sharp and Brackney Insurance, Kappa Kappa Kappa and Linda York. We couldn't have done it without you.

Special thanks to the Rokicki Family, Jan Firebaugh, the Greencastle Civic League, the Humane Society of Putnam County, Tom Sutherlin, Boy Scout Pack 99, Adam Cohen , the DePauw University Servicio en las Americas students, Greg Hedge, the Greencastle Police, Fire and Public Works departments, our musical entertainers, food vendors and all who came to celebrate our nation's freedom.
