Monday, July 13, 2015

A motorcycle ride benefit will help a Greencastle woman who is suffering from burns over 13 percent of her body.

The Ride for Darci Miller event is scheduled for July 18 at the Moose Lodge, at 212 W. Franklin St. in Greencastle.

Registration is noon to 12:45 p.m. The cost is $20 for couples and $15 for single riders. A meal will be included for all riders. The meal for non-riders is $7 per person and $10 for band and food.

Miller, a lifetime resident of Greencastle, is a 31-year-old mother who was severely burnt on May 5. She suffered a combination of one, two and three degree burns along with internal burns of her lungs, esophagus and mouth. She was flown to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, and admitted to the ICU Burn Unit where she stayed for three weeks.

Now home, Miller has to have care at all hours, attend physical therapy five times a week and continue to monitor and maintain both burn and donor sites of her body. With not being able to go back to work immediately Miller and her two daughters, ages 2 and 11, are in financial need to make ends meet and to keep up with the mortgage payment.
