Vendors sought for inaugural 'Cloverween' event

CLOVERDALE -- Crafty residents of Putnam County are encouraged to sign up for a free vendor spot at the inaugural Cloverween event in October.

Cloverdale Main Street, Cloverdale Action Committee and Cloverdale Community School Corporation are working together to put on the Halloween-themed event Saturday, Oct. 24 at the school.

Main Street president Kay Gedert said vendors have already started registering for the event. The goal is to sign up Putnam County craft food vendors first, but regional craftsmen will be welcomed as well.

"We are hoping for homemade crafts," Gedert said.

With the use of the school's parking lot, several vendors will be able to register for a free spot to sell goods.

"Main Street is not looking to make money on this event," Gedert explained.

"We may charge next year if vendors make money this year, but that would be used to buy advertising to promote the event."

Several other activities are scheduled to take place at the Cloverween event, including the Masquerade Parade as a kick-off to the festivities. Floats, cars, fire and police vehicles are invited to participate.

Gedert said Cloverdale schools have been especially helpful by allowing the use of school grounds and allowing school clubs to host the Halloween Carnival, which will benefit school groups such as student council, prom committee, athletics and more.

The carnival will include old school carnival-themed activities, such as a duck pond and ring toss games.

She credited high school principal Sonny Stoltz with allowing students to participate in the event outside the normal fundraising limitations.

Other activities will include a cake walk hosted by the Methodist Church, a chili supper presented by the Lions Club and the Boy Scouts will be selling ice cream.

Endeavor Communications will host a family friendly movie at dark. The title has not be determined yet.

"We are looking for this to be an old-fashioned fun day that won't cost a fortune," Gedert said.

Those interested in signing up for booth space, participating in the parade or would like to volunteer can contact Gedert at 765-721-6245 or by sending information to Cloverdale Main Street, P.O. Box 68.
