Kindergarten teacher Jan Swingley enlisted the help of Tyler Frasier to lead students to the classroom for the first time on the first day of school Friday. Even though some of the kindergartners were teary eyed, Swingley said it was going to be a great first day.

The first day for students at South Putnam also meant the first day interacting with middle and high school students for recently hired principal Mike Schimpf. He quickly jumped in to help as sixth-grader Kaleb Morgan tried to navigate the school for the first time. Schimpf said he was excited to get the school year going and noted the teachers had worked really hard to prepare for the first day.
