Pedal and Pound to raise funds for People Pathways

Monday, August 17, 2015

The Vandalia Trail will play host on Saturday, Sept. 19 to the Pedal & Pound fundraiser for People Pathways that comes in the form of running, walking or bicycling.

Although registration is free, donations are encouraged and all proceeds will benefit trail maintenance and repairs.

Sponsors for the occasion include Putnam Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, North Salem State Bank, Garl's Bike Shop Culligan of Putnam County, Baker's Septic Services, Bert and Betty's Kitchen, Coatesville Food Center and Walmart Supercenter.

A 12-mile segment of the multi-use course has been outlined, running from its starting point in Greencastle to its final destination in Amo. The trail is perfect for walking, running or bicycling, so participants can choose which is best for them.

Registration will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon and the event will begin at any point between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Those looking to participate can register day-of at the Greencastle Trailhead and Gazebo located at the intersection of Indianapolis Road and S.R. 240, or at the Coatesville Trailhead located east of Milton Street near the Coatesville Food Center.

To pre-register, or if you're simply looking for more information, contact the Putnam County Health Department at 658-2787.

Participants will be able to choose from one-mile, three-mile, 8.2-mile and 18-mile segments. The path comprises of flat, packed stone, so if you choose to pedal your way down the trail, "fat" tires are recommended by Pedal & Pound. Hosts and hostesses will be greeting walkers, runners and riders along the path and will provide snacks and drinks to the weary.

Lunch will be available for purchase from the Fillmore Fire Department Chicken Barbeque.

The event is presented in partnership with the People Pathways Volunteer Committee and the Putnam County Health Department to "highlight a segment of the developing Vandalia Trail, promote a healthy lifestyle and warmly welcome trail users while earning funds for ongoing train maintenance, upkeep and projects of People Pathways."

For more information, visit or call the Putnam County Health Department at 1542 S. Bloomington Street, Suite 1500 or at 658-2787.
