GHS cross country runs well

TERRE HAUTE --The Greencastle cross country teams took their first wins of the season against West Vigo. GHS benefited from a strong outing by several runners both on the boys' and the girls' side.

The two teams ran together due to an arrangement with West Vigo and the GHS boys took the win 29-27 with the girls winning 43-16.

"The boys were able to place six runners in the top 10 to secure the win," Greencastle coach Garry Anderson said. "However the girls, (who) weren't to be shown up by the boys placed, one through four and six in the top seven to win their meet. Freshman Emma Wilson won the girls' meet with a time of 19:47 and putting herself in the top 25 record book for her team."

The early success is to be expected with a strong freshman class joining the already fast Tiger Cubs.

"Both teams were without some of the first line runners due to injuries and illness," Anderson said. "Hopefully some of missing runners will be back by Saturdays meet at Fountain Central High School."
