CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale volleyball team has struggled in the early part of the season falling in its first two matches. The Clover fell to Danville on Tuesday in three matches. The first two games were won decidedly at 25-12 and 25-13 but CHS did not go down easy in the final match losing 25-18.

"We got off to a slow start but I saw steady improvement over the course of the match," Clover coach Kathy Moore said. "We have a lot of work to do but I feel this team is up to the task."

Leading the Clovers was Lindsey Davis with nine kills, Christyn Willis with five and Savannah Jones with three. Tori Combs, Harley Manion and Mariah Huge earned one kill each.

Jones had three aces while Manion and Hannah Ehmen had one each. Willis scored five points and Jones scored four. Combs also had four solo blocks. Jones had 11 set assists.

Thursday Cloverdale took on Cascade and despite a strong showing in the first two games, the Cadets took the win in three games with scores of 28-26, 25-19 and 25-14.

"We played very well the first set, it could have gone either way, it was fun to watch," Moore said. "Now we need to learn how to play consistently throughout the match. We had some terrific saves and plays and I have seen improvement from earlier this week."

CHS has two WIC matches on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at home.
