County Jail

Several persons were lodged in the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 9:25 a.m. Friday, Rodney Brian Amonette, 49, Coatesville, was arrested for domestic battery.

At 10:20 a.m. Scott Patrick Sozzi, 28, Linton, was lodged at the jail for parole violation.

At 12:10 p.m. Quan T. Pham, 39, Greencastle, was charged with invasion of privacy.

At 8:25 p.m. Justin Ray York, 23, Greencastle, was booked in for driving with a suspended license and failure to appear

At 10:30 p.m. Shelley Nail, 52, Martinsville, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and driving while intoxicated.

* At 3:10 a.m. Saturday, Robert Howard, 55, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for operating a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator, resisting law enforcement and driving while intoxicated.

At 7:55 am. Justin Wayne Lewis, 25, Rockville, was charged with driving while intoxicated with alcohol.

At 12:10 p.m. Michael John Welsh, 52, Greencastle, was booked in for driving while intoxicated and possession of a schedule drug.

* At 12:01 a.m. Sunday, Daniel A. Glendening, 28, Indianapolis, was arrested for possession of marijuana.

At 3:30 a.m. Mitchell Bennett Bolin, 21, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for public intoxicated and resisting law enforcement.

At 8:34 p.m. Angela Marie Romandine, 36, Greencastle, was booked in on a Montgomery County warrant.

* At 11 a.m. Monday, Todd Earl Covington, 45, Indianapolis, was charged with failure to appear.

At 11:30 a.m. Tyler David O'Clair, 18, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for criminal recklessness with a firearm.

At 9 p.m. Katrina Maria Harshey, 53, Russellville, was booked in for driving while intoxicated.

City Police

A 74-year-old Greencastle man had to be airlifted to Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, following a Saturday evening accident, Greencastle City Police reported.

Bill Craig reportedly suffered an arterial bleed and three fractured vertebrae in his neck as a result of a 5:15 p.m. accident at Jackson and Seminary streets on the city's southwest side.

Craig was southbound on Jackson, driving a 1991 Ford Fiesta, when William Terry, 68, Nicholasville, Ky., entered the intersection westbound from Seminary Street in a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox and then reportedly executed a U-turn on South Jackson Street to go back eastbound on Seminary.

Craig told Officer Darrel Bunten that he swerved to avoid contact with the Terry vehicle but could not avoid a collision and struck the driver's side door.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

Craig was cited for operating a vehicle without financial responsibility.

One recent arrest was reported by city officers as a 74-year-old Coatesville man was lodged in the Putnam County Jail Monday afternoon for an alleged theft at the Greencastle Walmart store.

Officer Brad Hiatt was called to the store at 3:45 p.m. after Jimmie Lynn Virgin was stopped after he had passed all Walmart checkpoints without paying for a reported $72.67 in items.

Authorities reported that Virgin brought his own Walmart bags into the store and proceeded to place items in them and tried to exit the building with paying.

He told the officer he was not stealing the items but brought in the bags to keep certain items cold and others warm before he checked out. He said he headed to the parking lot without paying because he had forgotten his wallet in the vehicle.

Virgin allegedly took such items as scent killer for deer hunting, a duffel bag, a birthday card, Garlique, chocolate and regular milk, Oreos, Sierra Mist, sausage, cheese, peanuts and pepperoni.

Sheriff's Department

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department responded to several recent property-damage accidents.

* At 4:43 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, Beverly Hughes, 48, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 400 South in a 2009 Hyundai Accent when she observed a northbound pickup truck on County Road 50 West approaching a 90-degree turn. The truck, a 1978 Ford F100, was driven by Roger W. Kinsler, 48, Cloverdale.

Hughes told Reserve Deputy Rick Lambert she noticed Kinsler's truck cross the center line as it rounded the curve before striking her vehicle on the left side.

Kinsler told Lambert he felt his load of scrap metal shift, which carried the truck across the line.

Kinsler was cited for driving left of center.

* At 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, Chad W. Frank, 23, Indianapolis, was northbound on County Road 575 East rounding a curve just north of County Road 300 North in a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix. Lonnie R. Morlan, 44, Fillmore, was southbound in a 1999 Chevrolet pickup.

The two vehicles met in an opposite-direction sideswipe. After impact, Frank's vehicle left the road and hit a fence.

Frank told Lt. Donnie Pettit that he believed Morlan was driving too fast. Morlan said he thought Frank was left of center.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 5:55 a.m. Thursday, Zachary M. Doyle, 25, Coatesville, was northbound on U.S. 231 just north of County Road 1100 North in a 2012 Hyundai Accent when he hit a deer.

The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage, which was estimated to be $2,501-$5,000.

* At 5:46 p.m. on Thursday, Nancy A. White, 62, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2013 Ford SUV. John J. Rosich, 75, Greencastle, was also northbound in a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.

White told Deputy Mike Downing she noticed a yellow truck in front of her slowing to turn right onto Tall Oaks Lane, so she braked. Rosich said he also saw the yellow vehicle slowing to turn. However, Rosich misjudged the distance to White's vehicle, rear-ending it.

White's vehicle cross the southbound lane and came to rest in a ditch on the west side of the road.

Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department was on scene, giving medical attention and cleaning up fluids.

White had to be extricated from the vehicle and suffered elbow and lower arm injuries.

Both vehicle were towed. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

* At 1:23 p.m. Saturday, Reserve Deputy Lambert was dispatched to a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident in Cloverdale.

Diane Brinker was contacted by Marilyn Knoy in a downtown parking lot. Knoy said she saw a black SUV strike Brinker's car before leaving the scene.

Knoy was able to get the license plate of the offending vehicle. Lambert checked the number, which came back to Kandice Martin and Mike Martin of Van Bibber Lake Estates.

Officers had not located the Martins as of the time of filing the report.

Damage consisted of a cracked left front headlight assembly, estimated at less than $1,000.

* At 4:21 p.m. Saturday, Allen C. Riddell, 25, Mooresville, was northbound on U.S. 231 just north of County Road 350 South in a 2007 Pontiac G6.

Riddel told Reserve Deputy Lambert that as he rounded a curve, he met a southbound blue vehicle partially in his lane.

In order to avoid the collision Riddel hit his brakes and lost control of the vehicle, leaving the road and hitting a mailbox.

The blue vehicle did not stop.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 9:23 p.m. Sunday, Baylee M. Allee, 18, Bloomington, was northbound on U.S. 231 near County Road 700 South in a 2014 Honda Civic when a deer ran into her path.

Allee told Deputy Downing she couldn't avoid the collision.

The car sustained $5,001-$10,000 in damage, but Allee was able to drive it to her destination.

Cloverdale Police

* At 8:20 p.m. Friday, Shelly Nail, 52, Martinsville, was arrested for operating while intoxicated, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

Officer Ken Shepherd responded to a call for a possible domestic disturbance. It was reported Nail was driving up and down Lafayette Street, squealing the vehicle's tires and running stop signs.

She later left the car and began walking. She was later located by Officer Shepherd and admitted to drinking and driving.

* At 1 a.m. Saturday, Robert Howard, 55, of Cloverdale, was arrested for resisting law enforcement, operating while intoxicated and being a habitual traffic violator. He also had outstanding warrants for being a habitual traffic violator, misdemeanor operating while intoxicated and felony operating while intoxicated.

Officer Mark Hoppus observed Howard on a motorcycle and was aware of a warrant for his arrest. Howard was swerving and speeding on the motorcycle as well.

Once stopped, it was determined Howard was intoxicated.

* At 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Justin W. Lewis, 27, Rockville, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

Officer Hoppus had been working with two other incidents early Saturday morning and when he stopped at the Marathon in Cloverdale, the clerk advised Lewis had just drive away from the establishment and was intoxicated. Officer Luke Brown was contacted regarding the information, so he located Lewis and arrested him.

* At 5 a.m. Monday, Lonnie R. Boyce, 41, of Cloverdale, was arrested for operating while intoxicated and being a habitual traffic offender.

Officer Jake Eagan observed Boyce turn from Stardust Road to U.S. 231 and accelerate rapidly, causing the items in the back of his truck to fall onto the roadway. Eagan initiated a traffic stop regarding the items in the road and found Boyce was intoxicated.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department assisted with six medical calls and responded to several other dispatches recently.

* At 5:20 p.m. Saturday, GFD assisted with a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Jackson and Seminary streets.

* At 11:33 a.m. Sunday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 415 Anderson St. The alarm was caused by steam from the shower on the second floor.

* At 7:37 p.m. Sunday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 904 S. College Ave. The alarm was caused by hair care products.

* At 12:31 a.m. Monday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St. due to the pull station being activated.

* At 2:19 p.m. Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 1601 Hospital Drive. The alarm was caused by a water flow issue in the sprinkler system. The issue was turned over to the maintenance department.

* At 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 905 S. College Ave. DePauw University Police had the alarm reset by the time they were on the scene.
