The Greencastle volleyball team played great Wednesday against Sullivan and while the Tiger Cubs pushed the Golden Arrows into extra sets in the third game GHS fell in three games.

The Tiger Cubs were coming off a win at Southmont where GHS coach Maggie Walters said the players did some things right in a different style of game.

"It was kind of slower than we are used to seeing," Walters said. "Being able to communicate on defense and being able to serve-receive was huge in that game."

The match Wednesday against Sullivan got away from the Tiger Cubs but coach Walters said the team's communication is steadily improving.

GHS was overpowered in the first two sets 25-14 and 25-15 but it was the never-say-die attitude in the last game that got everyone's attention.

The Lady Arrows fought several times to gain an upper hand but the effort of the Tiger Cubs kept Greencastle alive and the home team nearly came away with the win.

GHS was up at 25-24 before Sullivan staved off defeat and took the lead. The Tiger Cubs were expending all kinds of effort to dig out the strong Sullivan attacks but eventually a few Tiger Cubs mistakes allowed the Sullivan win.

"It was nerve racking," Walters said. "We made some errors when we shouldn't have. So we're just getting better at playing under pressure in situations like that."

Greencastle (1-4) will next play this weekend in the Brown County Invite along with North Putnam.
