Greencastle golf wins at Windy Hill Golf Course

Thursday, August 27, 2015

When the Greencastle girls' golf team took on WIC rival Cascade at home, the sun was shining, the breeze was pleasant and the Tiger Cubs were on their game.

In match-play, Greencastle won five of six holes claiming the victory over the Cadets.

"We had a really good evening with the match play even though we didn't have total scores," GHS coach Bob Hedge said. "Macey (Masten) , Lokysa (Scheuermann) and Alex (Weliever) were all playing really well out there. They were playing like bogie golf through five to seven holes. That was nice to see."

Gabby Selvia and Lindsey Bridewater also won their matches and Alexa Newlin played well but lost on the last hole.

The Tiger Cubs will now be looking toward the WIC tournament on Saturday to be played at Idle Creek in Terre Haute.

"We're 6-3 on the season," Hedge said. "One we shouldn't have lost and the two others were to the two Terre Hautes; North and South. So we are looking forward to going into conference this weekend. It's going to be a challenge with 12 teams but we are hoping to get into the upper-third and qualify one or two for All-Conference."

There are a few WIC teams like Brown County and South Vermillion who aren't on the regular season schedule and on the Idle Creek course Hedge is looking for a top-five finish.
