Louis Frantz Luzar

Louis Frantz Luzar, 66, Cloverdale, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015 at the Summerfield Health Care Center in Cloverdale.

Born in Indianapolis on Feb. 10, 1949, Louis "Louie" was the son of Louis Joseph Luzar and Mary Isabelle Frame Luzar, both deceased, of Cloverdale. He was raised on the Luzar family farm near Cloverdale.

Louie graduated from Greencastle High School in 1967. He is remembered for his outstanding athletic contribution to GHS where he excelled in football, wrestling and track. As co-captain of the football team his senior year, he helped make history for GHS as he was instrumental in the team capturing the school's first Western Indiana Conference championship.

Louie attended Butler University and graduated with a B.A. in history and political science in 1974. After college, he pursued a dynamic career in contracting, cattle breeding and farming. His marriage to Katherine Prestholdt Luzar of Lizton ended in divorce. Their son, Dr. Jeffrey Benson Luzar was a source of great pride to Louie.

In addition to his son, who is currently posted with the U.S. State Department in Indonesia, Louie is survived by his grandson, Matthew Benson Luzar; his daughter-in-law Cilene Luzar; his siblings, Mary Anne Luzar Tattersall and her husband William of Falls Church, Virginia, E. Jane Luzar of Indianapolis, Patrick Joseph Luzar and wife Denise of Tucson, Arizona and James Charles Luzar and wife Ella of Cloverdale; and several nieces and nephews.

In his later years, Louie enjoyed frequent picnics in the country and spending time with his son and family.

A private funeral was held on Saturday, Aug. 29, followed by burial at the Cloverdale Cemetery.
