It was a team effort that led the way in the Greencastle volleyball victory over South Vermillion, but some big kills by Allison White and Sarah Miller certainly paved the way.

The Tiger Cubs (3-6) won in straights sets Tuesday, earning the decisive victory in the non-conference matchup.

"Our offense is improving," GHS coach Maggie Walters said. "We've been struggling with our offense. Defense has been pretty strong , but the offense up until this game hasn't been connecting. We started to do that today."

Walters credits the offensive improvement not to a more intense focus but by settling down into a calmed approach.

"I think they just relaxed and realized that they can hit the open shots on the court," Walters said. "They stopped putting so much pressure on themselves."

Leading the way were White with 12 kills and Lydia Trout with 25 assists.

"We stared off slow but we've been working it in practices and getting better and better," White said. "We're just trying to work on it when the set is not quite there, just get it in and if it is get a good swing and get some points."

White said the more the team is able to score the better the offensive attacks.

"When we do get a really awesome kill that brings up our team dynamic," the senior said. "It makes us just want to fight harder."

Walters said that White's performance was welcomed and many Tiger Cub fans will hope for more strong attacking from the senior.

"I've known she can do it," Walters said. "She's done it all summer long so I'm glad that she finally came out and started swinging and getting some big kills.

Defensively it was Madison Trout and Maggie Meyer with 16 and nine digs respectively. Kenlee Johnson scored four aces for the purple squad.

"The team chemistry is great," White said. "We all want to see ourselves be great. I think we will get there. We're going to make it really soon."

Greencastle will be looking at a Putnam County match Thursday when the Tiger Cubs travel to Cloverdale.
