Tuesday, September 8, 2015

The Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District will host a public local working group meeting on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. at the USDA Service Center, located on 1007 Mill Pond Lane, Greencastle.

The meeting is being hosted on behalf of the United States Department of Agriculture's Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS).

The purpose of the local work group meeting is to discuss and rank Putnam County's top natural resource concerns. The results of the meeting will prepare the NRCS for the fiscal year 2016 Farm Bill conservation programs implementation.

The local working group sets the local priorities and provides recommendations to the district conservation and state conservationist on local natural resource priorities and criteria for conservation activities and programs.

During the meeting, the local work group will discuss how well Indiana's current technical information and programs address the local resource concerns.

A survey will be available for attendees to complete so the input from the meeting can be provided to the Indiana State Technical Committee.

Join the SWCD to learn more about the role of the local work group and to share expertise of Putnam County's agricultural and natural resource concerns.

Light refreshments will be available. The meeting will conclude by 7 p.m. Persons may call 653-5716 ext. 3 or email sue.crafton@in.nacdnet.net by Sept. 14 to reserve a spot.
