New location for Taste of Putnam event Saturday

Sunday, September 13, 2015

With local businesses providing samples of their delicacies and three musical acts on tap, the sixth annual Taste of Putnam County will focus on food, music and fun Saturday, Sept. 19.

The Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce will stage its 4-8 p.m. event at a new location, in the Community Building at the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

The 2015 Taste of Putnam County participants will include:

-- Almost Home.

-- Asbury Towers Retirement Community.

-- Charlie's (serving Beefcake Burgers).

-- Completely Nuts and Candy Co.

-- Jameson Coffee.

-- Mill Pond Health Campus.

-- McDonald's.

-- Sweet Wishes by Eitel's Florist.

All of the above will be bringing samples of their creations for the public, and at the end of the evening attendees will have an opportunity to vote for the "Best Food" of the evening. The winner will take home the Taste of Putnam County Traveling Plaque to display for the next year.

That Golden Plate Award has been presented since 2011. Last year's winner was Mill Pond Health Campus for the second straight time. The Inn at DePauw won the award in 2012 with The Final Approach Restaurant and Pub taking top honors in 2011.

Tickets for admission to Saturday's Taste of Putnam County are $5 per person. Children 12 and under are admitted for free.

Food tickets are $1 each and can be purchased at the event. No food item will be more than three tickets and most take one or two tickets.

All entry tickets will be entered in a drawing to win a Bradley smoker at the end of the evening.

Tickets can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce office, 16 S. Jackson St., Greencastle, or at the door on Saturday.

Along with lots of tasty Putnam County food, the event traditionally features a variety of entertainment, and this year is no different.

Live music will include newcomer Jordon Stephenson of Coatesville and returning entertainers Blues Side Up of Greencastle and singer Barbara Ellen of Crawfordsville.

Meanwhile, free games for kids will be provided by Big Bounce Fun House Rentals.

Corporate sponsors supporting of the annual Chamber event include Duke Energy, Big Bounce, First National Bank, Banner-Graphic, Greencastle Offset Printing, Taylor Made Awards and Promotions, Ruoff Mortgage, Putnam County Hospital and the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

Games and activities are being sponsored by Big Bounce, Mill Pond Health Campus, Old National Bank, PNC Bank, Teachers Credit Union, Putnam County Comprehensive Services and United Way of Putnam County.

Anyone with questions about the event may call the Chamber office (653-4517).
