County Jail

Several people have been booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 5:11 a.m. Friday, Dylan James Lindsay, 25, Brazil, was arrested on an out-of-county warrant.

At 5:30 a.m. William Christopher Davis, 34, Poland, was booked in on a local warrant.

At 6:17 a.m. Shelby Kay Hodge, 23, Cloverdale, was charged with possession of a narcotic, dealing in a narcotic, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

At 10:55 a.m. Christopher Larry Bollenbacher, 43, Rockville, was lodged at the jail for probation violation.

* At 12:24 a.m. Saturday, Cynthia Marie Ross, 39, Greencastle, was arrested for disorderly conduct.

At 12:48 a.m. Summer Dawn O'Conner, 21, Fillmore, was booked in for disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

At 1:17 a.m. Amanda Louise Hill, 38, Indianapolis, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and trafficking contraband with an inmate.

At 1:49 a.m. Timothy O'Neill McKenna, 39, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for possession of methamphetamine, driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.

At 2:35 a.m. Rolando Cedillo Jr., 39, Pharr, Texas, was arrested on a Johnson County warrant.

At 3:30 p.m. Mark Douglas Miller, 46, Mooresville, was booked in on a Vigo County warrant.

At 5 p.m. Javier Hernandez, 19, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on a Marion County warrant.

At 8:20 p.m. Jon Russell Kennedy, 49, Cloverdale, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, being a habitual traffic violator and on an Owen County warrant.

* At 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Anthony Wayne Burnett, 25, Fillmore, was booked in on a warrant for residential entry and battery.

At 9:20 p.m. Laura Marie Griffith, 38, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a warrant.

At 11:20 a.m. Brian Anthony Bartley, 35, Greencastle, was arrested for nonsupport of a dependent.

At 6:15 p.m. David Stanley Sims, 60, Cloverdale, was booked in for operating while intoxicated.

City Police

A pair of recent incidents investigated by Officer Zach Rhine resulted in arrests, Greencastle City Police reported.

At 6:53 p.m. Saturday, Rhine responded to the report of a man stumbling along Shadowlawn Avenue, and found Michael Bastin, 43, Greencastle, in an extremely intoxicated state, he reported.

Bastin, who was lodged in the Putnam County Jail at 9:55 p.m. on a public intoxication charge, registered .486 percent blood-alcohol content under PBT (portable breathalyzer testing).

With .08 percent considered intoxicated under Indiana law, a reading of .486 percent would be more than six times the legal limit.

In an incident occurring at 2:40 a.m. Monday, Rhine ticketed the driver and arrested his passenger after a traffic stop at the McClure gas station on U.S. 231 South.

Arrested and lodged in the Putnam County Jail was Anita Carol Cundiff, 42, Greencastle. She was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle, Chad Nolte, 38, Brazil, was cited by Rhine for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff's Department

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department has responded to a number of recent property-damage accidents.

* An earlier collision in morning traffic approaching North Putnam High School on Tuesday, Sept. 15 caused two further collisions as other cars attempted to stop.

At 7:55 a.m. traffic was slowing on County Road 800 North. Nicole Jernagan, 34, Greencastle, was eastbound in a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox was able to come to a stop. Jonah M. Cremean, 18, Fillmore, also eastbound in a 1998 Honda CR-V, was also able to stop.

However, Jacob N. Scobee, 17, Roachdale, was unable to stop his 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, rear-ending Cremean's vehicle. The impact sent Cremean's vehicle into Jernagan's.

Scobee's truck had to be towed, but the other two vehicles were driven from the scene.

Capt. Danny Wallace estimated damage at $5,001-$10,000.

Farther back in traffic, Delight D. Schubert, 44, Bainbridge, was eastbound in a 2012 Chevrolet sedan. Sierra R. Graham, 17, Greencastle, was also eastbound in a 1998 Ford Taurus.

Schubert successfully came to a stop, but Graham told Deputy Adam Hull that she could not see the slowed traffic in time due to sun in her eyes. Graham rear-ended Schubert's vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At approximately 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, Patrick Labhart, 31, Greencastle, was backing out of a parking space at Dollar General on North Jackson Street in Greencastle in a 2012 Dodge Ram registered to the State of Indiana.

While exiting his space, Labhart backed into a light pole on the north end of the parking lot.

Labhart told Deputy Mike Downing he thought he hit the pole with his trailer hitch and there would not be any damage. He did not get out of his truck to investigate.

When Labhart got home, he noticed a large pole-shaped dent in his bumper and another in his tailgate. Labhart then reported the accident.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 2:42 a.m. on Thursday, James E. Keene, 42, Knightsville, was westbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 900 West in a 2008 Nissan Xterra when he hit a deer.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 2:12 p.m. on Thursday, William Bock, 83, Danville, was eastbound on SR 236 nearing County Road 50 West in a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. Gerald R. Beck, 79, Bainbridge, was westbound in a 1999 Ford Ranger preparing to turn left onto 50 West.

Beck apparently tried to turn left in front of Bock's vehicle. Bock told Deputy Riley Houghton he tried to avoid the collision by steering right, but it was too late.

The vehicles collided in the left front of each truck.

After impact, Bock's truck came to rest on the south side of SR 236 facing east. Beck's truck came to rest facing northeast in the roadway.

Beck suffered a bruised chest and was given medical attention at the scene.

Houghton was assisted at the scene by Lt. Donnie Pettit.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 11:28 a.m. on Friday, Krista D. Scobee, 22, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 200 South in a 2011 Jeep Wrangler. She told Reserve Deputy Rick Lambert she was slowing for an eastbound semi tractor-trailer partially in her lane.

Jon T. Hennette, 23, Greencastle, told Lambert he had exited U.S. 40 onto 200 South in a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze and saw Scobee's vehicle ahead. He tried to stop but began to slide due to wet pavement.

The left front and side of Hennette's car struck the right rear of Scobee's Jeep.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 10:19 a.m. on Saturday, Nathaniel L. Corrie, 20, Greencastle, was northbound on County Road 275 East in a 2003 Suzuki XL-7. Corrie told Sgt. Gregg Slover he lost control of his vehicle on the slick road as he approached a hillcrest with a slight curve.

The vehicle began to rotate clockwise, traveling into the path of a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox driven southbound by Amy N. Woodall, 31, Bainbridge.

Woodall said she saw Corrie lose control and attempted to avoid the collision but could not.

Corrie was transported from the scene with an elbow/lower arm injury.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

Slover was assisted by Capts. Tom Helmer and Danny Wallace.

* At 1:30 p.m. Monday, Skyler J. Clifford, 16, Roachdale, was northbound on County Road 25 West from the intersection of County Road 500 North in a 1997 Ford F250.

Clifford told Lt. Pettit an insect flew in her window and diverted her attention from the road.

The truck left the east side of the road and hit a sign. It continued north, driving up on and along a guardrail before coming to rest in the ditch.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 3:07 p.m. Monday, Ralph Kirton, 46, Poland, was eastbound on SR 42 near County Road 75 West on a 2007 Honda VTX 1300 motorcycle. J.C. Rodgers, 73, Okeechobee, Fla., was westbound in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado.

Rodgers told Deputy Houghton he tried to turn left into a driveway and did not see an oncoming vehicle.

Kirton said he saw Rodgers turn in front of him and could not avoid a collision.

His motorcycle collided with Rodgers' right rear quarter panel. The motorcycle came to rest in a grass area near the driveway.

Kirton was treated at the scene for back pain.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

Lt. Pettit assisted Houghton at the scene.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department assisted with eight medical runs and responded to several other dispatches recently.

* At 6:20 p.m. Thursday, GFD investigated a report of hazardous material at 420 Anderson St. The report was of a natural gas odor, but upon arrival there was no natural gas at the location.

* At 9:21 a.m. Friday, a homeowner contacted GFD concerning a smell of smoke at 37 Sunset Dr. No issue was found.

* At 5:11 p.m. Friday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Percy Julian Drive and Veterans Memorial Highway. The department cleaned fluid and debris from the road.

* At 5:30 p.m. Friday, GFD began assisting the city's water department with flushing the fire hydrants due to a boil order.

* At 7:59 p.m. Friday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 925 S. Zinc Mill Rd. The alarm was activated due to the flushing of hydrants causing a fluctuation in water pressure.

* At 9:19 p.m. Friday, GFD responded to an alarm at 208 E. Olive St. DePauw officials reset the alarm.

* At 11:01 p.m., GFD investigated a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St., in which two pull stations had been activated.

* At 11:36 p.m. Friday, GFD responded to 208 E. Olive St. A pull station had again been activated.

* At 12:28 a.m. Saturday, GFD investigated another fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St. A third-floor smoke detector had been activated, but no issue was found.

* At 7:48 a.m. Saturday, GFD responded to a call of lightning striking a house at 49 E. Alpha Rd. There was no fire, but light smoke was showing. Several breakers were tripped, as well as damage to outlets on the second floor, but no injuries.

* At 10:19 a.m. Saturday, GFD assisted with a motor vehicle accident on Airport Road north of U.S. 40. The department assisted Operation Life and cleared debris from the roadway.
