Former Purdue University basketball standout Brian Cardinal, now assistant director of the school's John Purdue Club, will be the featured speaker at a dinner program sponsored by the Purdue Club of Putnam County on Monday, Oct. 19.

The 6:30 p.m. dinner at Autumn Glen is open to the public.

A 2000 graduate of Purdue, Cardinal was a key member of the Boilermaker men's basketball team from 1996 to 2000, earning the team's Most Valuable Player award as a senior. A four-time recipient of the Ray Eddy "Mr. Hustle" Award, he set a Purdue record in career steals.

Cardinal enjoyed a 12-year career in the NBA following his Purdue playing days, including the 2011 NBA champion Dallas Mavericks.

Following his NBA years, Cardinal joined the John Purdue Club staff in 2011.

Ron Birt, president of the Putnam County Purdue Club, invites the public to attend the dinner program.

"We look forward to having Brian Cardinal as our guest," Birt said. "His vast basketball experience at the college and professional levels will provide an entertaining evening."

Cardinal's wife is Danielle Bird, a member of Purdue's 1999 national championship women's basketball team. The basketball practice court at Mackey Arena is named for Cardinal and his wife.

Cost of the dinner is $20 per person. Reservations should be made by Oct. 14 by calling Sandy Williams (653-3523) or Marianne Ash (386-7554).
